No, seriously, I wish I could do photography for his albums or for albums in general, but I always enjoy looking at the DitS photos, the self-titled costume shots, the SMYT art and of course the TotY cover. Anyone else find the FB photographic album art as an inspiring style?

There have been many images I have seen in Frank Black's albums that I have found to be really artistic. One of them, despite alot of people's opinions, is the cover to Black Letter Days. I think it fucking rocks! It is very subtle, yes, but it fits the mood of that album...when I think BLD, I always think of "End of Miles," which is one of my favourite FB&TC songs ever, which seems to be a song all about travelling. The picture on the cover could be in California on some obscure stretch of road...it just fits to me, I can't explain it. Another one is that pic of Frank on the first, self-titled album, where he is standing on the side of the street, against the backdrop of the buildings probably of L.A. in the background. The actual cover of that album really rocks, in that it is more of an abstract image than a picture, one that is very striking and memorable.
Although there are not too many images from his albums that I totally dislike, the cover to Cult of Ray has got to be my least favourite, followed by the cover to Oddballs. The cover to the first FB&TC is pretty lame, just a generic computer-generated image. Other than that, they are all pretty good.

Bah, how could I forget BLD's cover? Yeah, that one is nice too, love the grain and use of lines in it.

I like the brownish-tone color of the DITS photos. I think it is fitting for the album.

Don't know who had the artistic input for DITS (probably written on the sleeve!) but it is my favourite cover. Not too posey. |

I like the artwork for Frank Black & the Catholics ST. That Indian is way cool centered in that cosmic swirl of browns and harsh golds. The booklet stock is nice too with the same dingy patterns...something about that packaging fits perfectly with the brown mustard and sourkraut feel of the album itself...a wonderful unison I believe. Cult Of Ray is pretty bad. Pistolero is kinda cool too. Speaking of which, as good as DITS, BLD, DW, & SMYT are, Pistolero and FB&C (st) seem too be way overlooked. I think these two are by far his strongest in lyric and music...by god I'm going to start a TOPIC on this right now!!!
