ah see, I'd get the Tom Baker years, but I never warmed to Colin Baker, so I'd not recommend that. Mind, I would recommend the Peter Davison one, with the mirrors and snakes, its hilarious, and is also apparently Martin Clunes first ever TV appearance. Useless fact there. I wasn't scared of the daleks. |

They've just started showing Dr Who again here in Australia on the ABC. They're playing EVERY SINGLE EPISODE (besides the lost ones, for obvious reasons), starting from William Hartnell, the very first Doctor. They're playing 4 episodes a week, so it should run for quite a few years. Brilliant.
Mun Chien: Unfortunately that picture is too small for me to see properly.
Douglas Adams was going to do another Hitch Hiker's book, it was pretty much confirmed. Then he died. :( |

Yeah, in "Salmon of a Doubt" I think it's called, which compiles a whole lot of unreleased stuff.
I think the unfinished story is about a young Zaphod Beeblebrox (early teens) and his misadventures with Ford Prefect. Not the "proper" sequal that he was going to write, but related to the HHGTTG universe anyway. |

I doubt Dougals Adams would like the idea of publishing a bunch of his unfinished notes found on his laptop. As a bit of a writer myself, I mercilessly go over and over what I write before I let anyone else read it. I wouldn't want anyone reading something only half finished, it would be like eating a half cooked meal, it would be horrible.

hey jo - who do you work for? i assume this dvd is getting a proper worldwide release, just as the nirvana material will, right? i remember worrying whether or not pavement's slow century would get a UK release, but it did, albeit months and months after it's US release |

lol you know, this dvd thing was due somewhere in 2002 or something. if the rumors are true and the Pixies do get back together, wouldn't it be commercially a really good timing to bring it on the market right before the reunion. It's been planned for years I tell ya. |

nah, it hasn't. the DVD was always going to be a worldwide release, and as 4ad didn't get the rights back till this year (when all the albums were reissued in the US), plus some of the actual footage which will be used didn't arrive till recently, its not like it could have existed in any form before now! (well, next year)
I really do feel like a scratched record :) |

quote: Did they really only do 8 official videos? For some reason I keep looking at the list and thinking they did more - I'm going on 'Monkey Gone To Heaven' 'Here Comes Your Man' 'Dig For Fire/Allison' 'Velouria' 'Debaser' 'Head On' 'Alec Eiffel'... maybe its just me going mad here
I'm pretty sure they also did a video for "Planet of Sound"... saw it on 120 Minutes back in the day. |

the live version was footage MTV didn't have the rights to - it was available from their website for a while till they finally took it down... not sure if its the Town and Country Club footage which will be on the DVD, or the Brixton show... its one or the other |

hello jo,
do you have an email address that you can be contacted at? I tried the yahoo messenger thing and it doesn't seem to work for me. I worked on a little project for 4AD awhile back and was just curious as to your thoughts on it.
I'll be On the road today but I'll check back later to see if you had a chance to reply. Thanks!

I'm off still (just got back from Australia this morning!) but I'd think its still a while off before there's a release date. The new Best of and the DVD both have been allocated 2004 catalogue numbers - its down to v23 to finish the artwork...!
I'm back in on Monday, but I doubt there'll be more news when I get into work... |

I think the videos are 'Monkey','Your Man','Veloria','Dig','Planet','Alec','Debaser'...oh wait that' only 7...was there a vid for 'River Euprates'? Maybe it's a video for a new 'best of' single?
R.E hotel room guitar-breakage....Black did it as a joke with a broken guitar and got a nasty splinter cut! Oh yeah, speaking of 'Hitchhikers', Radiohead took the title of they're song 'Paranoid Android' from that.

ah, back to hitchhikers.... i cannot wait for the movie to finally be made.... i see they're confirming some characters now....great news...
and i have read salmon of doubt, and it is actually really interesting. also, i have almost finished the official douglas adams biography - wish you were here - and it is a fantastic read. anyone who loves his books as much as do should read it....it is very imformative, but pretty chaotic.

I only remember seeing bits of 'Hitchhiker's' as a child...it was weird and facinating. They rescreened it on BBC2 a while ago, after D.Adams died. I think he influenced Terry Pratchet; I used to read the Discworld novels, and got Pratchet's autograph years ago. They were supposed to be making Colour Of Magic into a film.

yeah, Mr Pratchett is quite a fan. He even posts semi-regularly on the Douglas Adams newsgroup.
i think i tried to read one of his books once - i thought it was rubbish.

I tuned out a long time ago, although I loved his books. There's another 'funny'-fantasy writer, whom I can't remember, whom I believed influnced Pratchett....Geez, what's 'is name again?
