i've heard him lumped into the alt-country label and since i enjoy wilco and frank i figured he might be worth a shot. I've downloaded a couple songs just for sample sake and they seem good. Do any of you have his albums? recomend any?

all of his stuff with whiskytown is great.
his first solo album 'heartbreaker' is wonderful.
'gold', his second release, has some really great songs on it, but is a little too polished... along the lines of the new rhett miller album.
his new album, 'demolition', is a collection of demos... its hit and miss...

I'll echo Jasun's comments....Get Strangers Almanac and Faithless St. by Whiskeytown, both great albums. Heartbreaker is fantastic. Gold didn't really bother me production wise, I just felt that it might have been just a tad bit overlong. IMO there are some songs included that just don't seem "complete" or "good enough" but kind of "getting there" if that makes sense. While on the other hand, quite a bit of the material on Gold is great. As for the new demos release "Demolition", it is very hit and miss. I really like about half of it.

If you haven't already downloaded these songs, definitely do so:

Winding Wheel
Oh My Sweet Carolina
In My Time of Need
New York, New York
Nuclear
Hallelujah
Chin Up Cheer Up

All of the above are EXCELLENT Ryan Adams tracks IMO and should give you a good overview of whether or not he would be someone whom you could really get into.

As for Whiskeytown, try and dload anything off of the 2 albums that I mentioned above. I also only mentioned one track from Gold (NY NY), but if you really like the above and wanna get one of his albums, get them in the order that they were released (Heartbreaker, Gold, Demolition).

I've got and love all his stuff.
Every song on Heartbreaker is awesome, and the other albums aren't too far behind.
