Do you think there's a link with Frank moving to Oregon? Anyway, it depends on who's running against him.

Hmmm. I know this is going to sound like VEronica Voter, but I'd have to see what his agenda is, how he stands on the issues I care about, what his big picture plan is. If I agree with his platform, I'd cast a vote for him, because he has the charisma to get his agenda accomplished.
Ventura's Minnesota platform made much sense to me. Its a shame his detractors played up the "stupid wrestler" shit. Ventura was brash and not often politically correct, but when it came down to policy, I found little to disagree with him with. He handled the office well, I think, and I suspect Ah-nold would too. Again, I know he's a republican (feh!) but I think he's more of a John McCain repub rather than a Bush repub, and I can stomach that.

Springer decided not to run.
Arnold is suppose to be a socially liberal Republican. |

No, I would not vote for Arnie - mostly b/c I am not a Republican. Also, because - have you seen him lately? He scares me. |

\Well, the democratic backlash against Davis is so strong, no dem is going to get elected. I'll take ah-nold rather than some horrid right wing know.
Besdies, I still don't believe that anybody married to a Kennedy for that long is long for the GOP. Maybe that's why he's a social liberal. That stuff rubs off.

He's definitely a conservative and therefore, I doubt he's pro-choice. If I was 18 and I lived in California, I might vote for him, but I don't know what other republicans are running. Arnold isn't just some celebrity who thinks it would be cool to be governor, he knows a lot about politics and would probably be pretty good, and he's a really great guy from what I've seen on interviews and such. |

I don't vote for muscle men who pluck their eyebrows. I also don't vote for people who endorse civilian use of Hummers (Arnie was the first person to do this when he got one from the Army back in the Bush Sr. days.) At least he can't run for president.
Do you think it's worse to have a genuinely awful right winger in office than it is to have a celebrity puppet who will simply do the bidding of all the awful right wingers?

Some Social-liberal Republicans are pro-choice so that's why I asked. But the Bush thing is gross. Whatever - it's just very weird. |

Who are the other candidates?
I think it is time for all political figures to be voted on by the fictional characters they have created in the past.
How cool would it be to have an Arnie vs Stallone vs Ali G! Who would win?! My money is on Arnie. I think he has the higher kill ratio and the biggest heart. Probably the size of a Babboon's I bet!

I'm pretty sure that only applies to presidents, might to some other offices, but I believe governor requirements are up to the state, and I don't think any restrict born nationality.

Larry Flynt - war hero, free speech advocate and pornographer (y'know, Woody Harrelson played him in the movie) has announced that he is willing to offer himself for consideration according to FoxNews.
And that's not all.
"Other quirky candidates include several men named Gray Davis and Angelyne, the blonde, buxom artist made famous by her depiction on numerous Hollywood billboards."
Check it out at http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,93547,00.html
or not, if you don't want to.
Peace, Love and Thud.

Yes, I read about Flynt as well. He probably stands with me more on issues I care about anyway (certainly first amendment issues). Back when he'd been shot, and was claiming to be a born-again with Ruth Carter Stapleton, according to Paul Krassner (in Krassner's autobio), he gave editorial control of Hustler to Krassner, who at the time turned in some marvelous (lefty, antiwar, muckraking) journalism. Krassner saw it as a way to get the blue collar to read this kind of stuff: "You put it next to some woman showing pink, you're gonna get readers..." was his attitude. According to Krassner, Flynt admitted to him that the whole born again thing was just a publicity stunt.
I have big issues with porn in general, but Flynt has always been a straight-up, no bullshit kind of guy, and he's definitely a rabble rouser. At least he doesn't sugar coat what he does -- and he (like his models!) doesn't seem to hide a thing. He was the guy who called repubs on thier hypocrisy during Monicagate, and People v. Flynt was basically brought on by Jerry Falwell. Anybody who takes on Falwell gets points in my book. I have way more respect for Flynt than I do Hefner or Guccione, that's for sure.
Have you seen his ads to pray for the death of Bill O'Reilly? Brilliant satire in the tradition of Krassner, Lenny Bruce, and everybody who ever worked for Mad Magazine. They read exactly like those right wing pray-in ads for the death of pro-choice supreme court justices. I guess there's stuff Flynt publishes that I hate, but the man has absolutely no sacred cows and that's why I can deal with him.

I believe only president and vice president must be born in the US. There is a small push from Orrin Hatch to get rid of that requirement.
I beleive Arnold is pro-choice. I believe Riordan (sp?) is as well. Pete Wilson may have been too.
I have no idea what Arnold's positioin is on gun control or the environment (off-shore drilling). Can a Hummer owner ever be pro-environment? |

I wonder how people felt back when Reagan took office. Some of them probably remembered him from when he was an actor back in the fifties. It was probably a similar scenario to now, when it seems absurd that the Terminator would hold political office. Like several other speakers on this thread, I probably would have to be better acclimated with Arnold's policies before blindly voting for or against him based solely on the fact that he is an actor. That fact really doesn't hold much bearing on my decision.
