So, has anyone here besides me heard Frank's favorite SST band, Angst? These guys are great. Kind of like a, uh, well for lack of a better term, angstier R.E.M. - they rock and occasionally have a good sense of humor (sample lyric: "I'm glad I'm not in Russia / and Russia's not in me" from Glad I'm Not In Russia). I _really_ want Frank to record a version of "Somethings (I Can't Get Used To)" that he played live a couple times a few years back. C'mon, Frank, we know you love these guys.

i like Frank's song about Angst, but i really don't care for Angst the band.
i bought Cry For Happy after Frank mentioned them at a show, and how much he liked them etc.. and i really couldn't get into it. and ended up selling it.
so it goes. |

HOLY SHIT! Thank you FLOOP, the fucking mystery is solved! You bringing up "Cry For Happy" hit a chord with my brain, because ever since SSMVGD came out, I've been trying to figure out the fucking lyrics to the second verse...they don't make sense at all and are very difficult to figure out. But, after "Cry For Happy" was mentioned, I was almost certain that he's using their album names for lyrics, and sure enough, a trip to allmusic.com confirmed my beliefs. The mystery lyrics for the second verse of Angst are almost certainly:
"Been to the Mending Wall / I Cry For Happy / I found the Mystery Spot / I live the Lite Life / I think I'm gonna bomb / But you're not around / And I..."

man, i've known that verse for years.. you should've asked. btw, i think where you have "I think I'm gonna bomb" is really "I think I got 'em all". as in, Frank believes he owns all Angst's records.
I once asked Joesph Pope (Angst frontman) what he thought about Frank's admiration. He said it was very nice. |

I never really sat down with Hate Me. I listened to Angst over and over and over and over and the words were all gibberish. You might be right, G...I don't know about about that one line.

I think it is "I think I got 'em all, but you're not around" - maybe he's referring to the first Angst EP released on Happy Squid? That little fucker is hard to find.
