To save you the annoying advertisements:
SINGLE REVIEW - EVERYTHING IS NEW 01/08/03 As cryptic as ever, Black Francis says his latest album, Show Me Your Tears was influenced, in a roundabout way, by his recent therapy sessions, each track representing a tear; "thirteen big, salty tears. Like thirteen little black dogs just born, still in their sacs."
However, this first taster reveals a hint of a ray of hope. Okay, so the spartan piano chords coupled with aching occasional slide guitar bends at the start are pretty heartbreaking. But once you've got over the melancholic verses during which Frank appears to fear or at least be resigned to change, he begins to discover some sort of solace in his melancholy. "Everything is new, when the sky is blue, got everything to do."
It's damn lovely, that's what it is, and only 1,000 of these puppies have been issued so get yours quick.
His rendition of the Rolling Stones' Down In The Hole on the flipside is classic skewered Frank too. |

Wow. No Pixies reference (other than calling him Black Francis, I guess). Or Nirvana. Or anything else. Tasty. |

Now that you mention it, I can see the small similarities. Only about enough to come to the conclusion that it was the same guy who wrote them both.
However, there is an angsty, psyhedelic harshness in Gouge Away that Everything is New bypasses.
In playing the two songs, I realized that Dog Gone and Where is My Mind are the same chord progression almost wih one or two chords switched around.
What does it mean? Nothing, but this is what we do on Fan Forums, we obsess. |
