So, I am going to London for 10 days in October - what are good things to see? I have been before so I already hit many of the 'tourist' things, I would like to see more obscure stuff or things not EVERYONE knows about. Suggestions? I will be on my own and walking a ton.
Thanks! |

You could go to Shoreditch - see Spitalfield market (on a Sunday) and check out the Banksy graffitti abundant around that area (the man's an artist)... |

I was thinking of going over in Oct and hopefully catch the Frank gig at the Astoria... I use to live there so it will be nice to go back and catch up.
Ramona:
Camdem market is interesting as are other open air stuff like Spitalfields which is kind of neat and in a really old part of town. I also went on some walking tours (london walks) and I found them interesting and reasonable for London. The portrait gallery is excellent, tate modern or any other free museums are worth while.
Partying in Camden is fun... the Marathon after hours (on the route to chaulk farm, if it is still there) is one of the strangest places I have been in my life. |

Well, if you go to Astoria - I will see you there! At some point I will come up with a plan about meeting folks there...but there is time for that.
Thanks for the suggestions. |

Hi Mer and Ramona,
Back again although my postings are nothing less than speradic in the last few months... but hello!
Anyhoo,
Thought of more London Stuff:
Dublin Castle and the Monach around Camden (basically if you live there you hang out in the neighbourhood you live in I was close to Camdem for a significant time) both are two great club/pubs with later licenses. Both play "alternative" and a lot of funky Motown stuff good dance places. Monarch is two stories and reminds me of a studenty place. Dublin Castle is a live venue as well.
My buddy is leaving to live there for a while on Tues... he got me into Frank so I promised that if he could hook up the tickets I would go so far it's looking good. Have to check it out because I have several friends still toiling in London...
Write more when I remeber things to do there, |

Highgate Cemetary is worth a visit. It's off the Northern Line tube. |

I reckon you should start at The Tower of London, then walk along past the HMS Belfast (historical Warship).
Then round off at the Tate Modern.
You could also do worse than see the Dali exhibition at county Hall or the London Aquarium or do the London Eye.
You could also see St. Pauls.
I realise that this would be a long day but trust me its do-able.
I'd round it off with shopping at Fortum and Masons chocolate hall, book shopping in Waterstones then dinner in Chinatown (Mings in Gerrard Street) and then a movie in Leicester Square odeon followed by drinks till nervous collapse at Tiger tiger.
That's how I'd do it anyway.
Oooh, and in Picadilly you can go to the rock circus and see Kristin Hersh's hand print on a wall along with countless other exhibits.
Also if you go to South Kensington you can do Harrods, the Victoria And Albert Museum and The Brompton Oratory - just breathtaking inside.
So there's a few culture tips for you!
If you get to Kings Cross area, try LA SCALA if you fancy a night of groovy clubbing!

Thanks, Leah! I have been to the Tower of London and a couple other things that are especially touristy - but a bunch of stuff on your list sounds great. I appreciate it!
Getting very excited now... |
