A few people said they wanted to do the Survivor thing (see the Devil's Workhop Survivor thread) with an older album, so we'll try this. Vote to eliminate the song you like the least.

fazer eyes is actually one of my favourites from teenager! i love the chrous and the guitar bit at the end is excellent.
i would drop pure denizen of the citizens band. its still not a bad song though

Pie in the Sky's gotta stay if you're a guitar fan at all...so fun to play that it grows on you with every listen of Teenager. I still jump just about every time I hear the "stomp your feet" part.
I vote for White Noise Maker to get voted off the island.

you guys are all seriously crazy. superabound?! vanishing spies?! white noise maker?! WHITE NOISE MAKER?!!! these are the BEST songs on this album (among others). everyone should share my opinion :)

Are you all of your minds? The first one of you i see trying to eliminate one little baby of my old long long time teenager companion is gonna get an insult letter formidable.
Ha ha , just joking, don't worry; but the point i wanna make is that this whole survivor theme is about the exact opposite of what we should do on this forum : that is to help build a better and richer understanding of Frank's poetry (like to call all he does poetry) rather than trying to slowly deceive ourselves by depreciating the poetry or saying what poetry we like least.
But my gibberish is already too long and so serious. |

i think its great that everyone is picking different songs.. it shows how all of his songs relate to different people in different ways and that a song one person likes is another persons least fave. i could count bad, wicked world, superabound, white noise maker (a classic) and big red as my faves (but only after hearing it live. really cool). sign of a great artist you know!

I don't know about this survivor game. It's a spin-off of a crappy game show on CBS. Do we really need to vote for a song that we don't like and see which song people hate the most? I thought this was a site in honor of Frank Black. If we are gonna say which frank black songs we don't like, it seems pointless to make it a game. Can't we just discuss why we don't like a particular song instead of just being vague and saying "Fiddle Riddle sucks". Sure it's interesting that someone could hate Vanishing Spies or White Noise Maker (to me), but why? It does no good if someone just names a song to cast their vote. Ya see? Ok, well continue playing if you must, but personally I don't see the value of this game.

100% agree. Plus i have to say to you Derek that's it's kind of strange that they were FB songs i didn't like a lot before playing on the guitar, and liked them better when i could play them (i'd say Superabound and Don't ya rile them for example). So it's obvious that's it's much more challenging and fun to try to see the beauty in a song you don't like than to say "aaah fuck Fiddle Riddle".

Hey, just keep it cool... It's not like we hate all these songs. I could listen to Pure Denizen all day long and I wouldn't mind. Actually there's only one song in the entire Frank discography that I always skip, it's You're Such A Wire. I find the lyrics and the melody weak.
It's not like we're in some cult where criticism is forbidden... If the band was called Saddam Hussein & The Muslims and I was an Iraqian, then yeah, I would get myself into trouble for saying I like some on his songs less than others... Don't take the board too seriously.
Hey, let's make a Frank Black forum survivor. I vote for Jim to be unsubscribed. I hate you, Jim.

I've got an idea. Instead of playing Survivor, we all name a song or two that we tend to skip on each album. Now this is where honesty comes in, we all must make mix CD's and listen to the songs we don't like all day long!
ok, seriously, I did come up with a thought. It's interesting because now I think if I were to give a FB mix CD to someone whose never heard of Frank Black, I'd probably put one or two songs I don't like on there. You never know, a song I dislike might turn someone on to Frank's music. I love all my ghosts but Mr. Bob Jones might not like it. He might prefer Chip away boy.

hey, easy people...Its fun to vote off songs...not mean spirited. I mean come on, everyone on this board loves these songs with a passion (bordering on obsessive) or we wouldnĠt be here, posting on this board to begin with. Opinions are a good thing--without them weĠd all be listening to Britney Spears or the other crap they cram down our throats...My hunch is even The Man himself, you know, Frank B., likes some songs better than others...Besides, not everything needs to be intellectually stimulating...just stimulating, like sex for example...and how can you argue with that?
