| Heloise and the Scene I can do without. If I had to choose one to go, it would be The Scene, Heloise a very close second. |

i agree with "the scene".. and even "modern age"..
if you get rid of Heloise before either of these, i'm unsubscribing from this forum..
ok. i won't. but it would be a crying shame.. |

| Might I suggest doing this with an older album? Maybe start with Come on Pilgrim or something. This album just came out so I doubt anyone's favorites are totally cemented...also, it seems too new to be ripping apart (which is basically what this game does). And...how could fields of marigold have been the first one to get kicked off? |

I agree, Itchload. It's more than a little perverse to make a game out of debating which track is worst from a new disc by your favorite artist. If anything, that the debate proceeds so lovingly only serves to accent the perversity. Carry on! - Mel |

| Why "Fields Of Marigold" is gone is something I'll never understand, but I guess I'll go with "The Scene" for the weakest remaining track. |

If you took any song off "devil's workshop" the album would be 3 minutes shorter and we'd all complain that it's so short. we don't want that. I like all the songs on there, some more than others but still, how long is this gonna go on? Til there are 2 songs left? Couldn't we play Frank BLack Jeopardy?

The answer:
These two songs use the same titles as song from one of Frank's major influences, whom he has covered songs of himself.
Confusing enough? |

Yeah, the "poll" format would be very handy indeed.
Also, I like every song on DW, just some more than others. Another funny thing is that some of my favorite songs to listen to are some of my least favorite songs to sit and play/sing (21 Reasons...brilliant song, but I just don't really enjoy playing it solo that well.....Chip Away Boy as well...love the song, but it kinda bores me to play it alone, just acoustic and voice)...while other songs that I don't enjoy listening to as well are totally fun to sit and sing/play (Fields of Marigold, Valentine & Garuda are 2 songs I really love to sit and play solo but listening to them doesnt get me as "involved" so to speak). |

What is "I Gotta Move" by the Kinks?
(can't think of the other one. i'm guessing i have the right band though)
I'll take "Oddballs & End of Miles" for $200, Alex.

what is "True Blue" by Madonna?
just kidding.. i doubt she was much of an influence.
(i gotta say, i'm not a fan, but she's looking pretty good in the traliers for her new movie)..
how about:
what is "Los Angeles"? for X.
it's safe to say they were an influence.. but i know from a story he told recently at a show that it wasn't a conscious reference to X.
he went off on how he has a habit of accidently using song titles that other artists have used. and by the time he realized it, the CD is being printed up and it's too late.. the above were examples he used.. and his new song "Nadine" was a recent one (though i can't remember who does the original.. i think Barry White)..

by the way, wasn't the point of this game to vote off songs, one at a time, till we arrived at "the best song"?
it seems like there's confusion about whether people are voting for their favorite song, or least favorite song..

| I dont know why no one seems to be talking about His Kingly Cave..Personally i think thats the coolest song frank has come up with..well maybe not the coolest, but it definately stuck out from the rest of them. It's so interesting to listen too, I really think frank should release that one as a single because i bet the radio's would play it..its damn good. A buddy of mine who doesnt listen to frank black thinks so too. |

You got half of it...the other one is Announcement by The Kinks. I just discovered that the other day while searching through someone's MP3 collection. Interesting, no? |

Yes, Berry has a "Nadine". Derek, you had me dragging out my Chuck Berry anthology "the Great Twenty-Eight". Maybe that's the collection you heard. "Nadine" is from 1964, written by C. Berry. Hadn't listened to it for at least three years, so I gave "Nadine" a spin. - Mel |

| Are we not still on Devil's Workshop? End of Miles is great -the lyrics really complement the music. No doubt it will be voted off first if there is ever a BLD survivor topic |
