How is Frank (Charles)?
How's his marriage? His new CD's at first made me think he went through a divorce or something.
What are his career goals? Is he satisfied? Does he want airplay?
What do we know about him? Does he want the tribute album to be titled a Tribute to Himself only, or would he like to include his band?
Why doesn't he take a stab at the edited album and go for some airplay?
Forgive me if this has already been hashed.

"This is Frank Black (not really). I want you to buy my albums and quit worrying about my damn personal life, you nincompoop." I'm sure he would probably say something to that effect. As for me, I don't really care about how much he pays on his car every month, just as long as he keeps making his music for people like me to listen to, that's all that matters. Right?

OK, as much as I respect Frank's privacy, and I do, aren't you at least a LITTLE curious about what Frank sings about? Why is it ok to speculate about the meaning of 'Vanishing Spies', 'Debaser' or 'All My Ghosts', but not about 'Cold Heart of Stone'? I have no problems with Frank keeping his own affairs private, but I at least am touched enough by some of these lyrics to wonder. |

I like it better when you don't quite know what the lyrics mean. Then you get to make your own inferences and most of the time when you find out what the lyrics mean (or in my case what the lyrics really are) they're somehow not as good or meaningful. |

I agree with you in some cases, Carolynanna, though it is usually only when I'm twisting the lyrics to fit my life or ideas. Most of the time, I find the source of Frank's inspiration to be quite interesting and it makes the song more interesting.
However, my favourite thing to do when I've "discovered" (/invented) meaning for a song is to discuss it with others and see what they think and what their ideas for that particular song's meanings might be. |

I think you hit the nail on the head, I find that you can learn more about people by their interpretations of lyrics (or movies books tv...) than you learn about the song. |

I agree with that view point. One of the great joys of music is disussing song meanings with others. Some of Frank's songs took years to sink in for me, like one day it just came to me that Vanishing Spies was about aliens and such. I also love it when he writes a song that on the surface is about one thing, but looking deeper is about quite another. An example being Jane, the Queen of Love. On the surface, it's a song about a girl named Jane who is quite the hot mamma. But, as has been speculated on this forum, (and in some ways confirmed by Jaina Blues) the song is really about the beleifs of the Jaina faith. I love that. |

Omer, that is what I am getting at. I ain't know song writer, but if I wrote an album with Cold Heart of Stone, Valentine and Geruda, How you went so far, I will run after you, and the farewell bend on it, I wouldn't be surprised if people maybe thought I was having some present relationship probs or maybe had old festering relationship probs. Throw in the therapy, ya know, and maybe i have no right to be, but yeah, I am a little curious to know how things are for the big fellah. Now we get this Show me your tears album which I am sure is great - but after years of listening to neat songs about CB wannabee truckers, and John Denver, and Beckett, are we going to hear albums with 50% relationship problem songs? If so, can't he at least throw in a few more vengeful versions, like Johnny Cash's Deliah? |

A new quote, Brackish Girl? And you think Frank is greater than Johnny English? I don't know...
And, as you are well aware, "Are you threatening me?" is an all-purpose expression popularized by Cornholio of Beavis and Butthead fame. |
