well, simply: Columbo. It's one of those shows that's always on, but you never know when, but as soon as you come across it you can't turn away. I never see it from the beginning!

You're fooling yourself.

The Greatest Show Of All-Time is, of course, "Golden Girls"

Nay to the Golden Girls the best TV show ever will always be The Urban Peasant or Little House on The Prairie...

I'm going to register a vote for Seinfeld for two reasons:

1. I think it is absolutely hilarious, clever, witty and perfect

2. I know Dean will vote for the Simpsons

I'd like to vote for the Simpsons. Oh, what's that Mike? Damn you, paparazzo.

You were correct, though, Simpsons first and Seinfeld second.

I'm sorry but I've just checked my Gem Pocket English Dictionary and under 'the greatest show of all time' it quite clearly says...'The Invaders'

The Simpsons, no doubt. I can't think of any other show that affected TV, humor, and world culture as a whole...can you?

Actually no I can't, what is also different about the Simpsons as compared with most other TV shows of today is the church. It is a big part of the Simpsons, mocking as it sometimes may be, its still in there. I find that quite interesting.

Married With Children or That 70's Show, but I'm young so that's why I'm picking them. I never watch the Simpsons, I just don't like cartoons that much

I used to love Columbo. When I was a kid we had a quiz at school with my teacher asking "which state, with the same name as a famous poilce show, became the 50th U.S. state in 1959 blahdy blah" . I knew I had the answer and shouted out Columbo!, which my teacher found very amusing( I'd never heard of, or seen, Hawaii 50)

Itchload, it's so funny the way every episode he has the murder pegged from the start and lets them think they get away with it and then turns around and says something like "by the way theres one more thing I'd like to talk about". And he goes on about something irrelavant his wife was saying and then totally catchs out the smug murder with his quirky observations. Every episode, classic!

I wish you guys in Ireland and elsewhere wouldn't bother studying any American history or geography in school since we Americans don't.

Best shows are Rockford Files, Kids in the Hall, SCTV, Monty Python, in no particular order. Best TV villain: Klondike Kat's arch-nemesis Savoir Faire.

Yes! Thank you therewererumors, Just to find someone else who appreciates Columbo makes my day. I wish they all came out on DVD or something, but maybe it wouldn't be as charming as catching it off guard on tv...kind of like how some classic rock songs are only good if you suddenly hear them on the radio--actually buying the cd you never listen to them (for instance, Born to be Wild)

.... Obligatory Simpsons praise.... Mention of Family Guy, Space Ghost, and some other Adult swim cartoon to show that i'm kinda cultured... Seinfield is second, because it's just not whackey enough for first.... Fearfull admittance that i like python.... Kids in the Hall, Daria, The Daily Show (with John Steward), MST3K, Guitar Wolf (in TV form).... I don't know.... That's alot, but i have TIVO, so i get more.

great show - especially the one where two guys rob a bank and get caught - 'i hear you needed this money coz your sister needs an operation.' 'yeah... but i dont think her nose is THAT big.'
classic.

I'm kinda disappointed no one has mentioned 'Monkey' - now that was one classy show...even the theme tune was fantastic.
