Living in Milwaukee, it gets really pathetic. They're still treated like gods here, at "Summerfest" they still play the amphetheater (a stadium sized joint where steaknsabre and I will be seeing Peter Gabriel next week...), <cut>
I'll be at Summerfest that day too, Thursday, 6/26. Should be a fun time walking around, drinking beer and, um, drinking beer. Be sure to tour the Jimi Hendrix Red House trailer.

There's a great quote from XTC's Andy Partridge in an interview from a few years back where the guy asks him which of his group's contemporaries does he think have held up as well as XTC. When the interviewer suggests the Buzzcocks, Partridge says that he thinks they're really pathetic and sad, and likens them to an oldies act that plays dinner theatres and rest homes and trots out their old punk hits in between the buffet meals and bedtime.
I don't know if he's correct, or just jealous that they're not afraid to step foot on a stage...
We tried to do that last year, but they closed up shop by the time Savoy Brown was finished with their set. (We had gone to catch Lewis Black, and mulled around the grounds until we saw that Savoy Brown was playing, nice set). Summerfest in general, bumms us out. If you want to know everything that's wrong with the music industry today, go to Summerfest. You will walk from one end of the grounds to the other and MAYBE you'll hear a band playing an original tune of their own that was written within the past five years. MAYBE. Its really sad. It used to be actually something I looked forward to. Every now and then they score a great act, but its probably more because they were on tour anyway, and this happened to be their Milwaukee stop. I always say, Summerfest may not be a great music festival, but I'll admit its the best and biggest church festival (complete with Bingo!) you'll ever hit.
OK, I'll shut up now. and this time hope to catch that hendrix trailer while its still open. And eat a basket of fried eggplant. |

i agree about the myth thing. if the pixies got together now they would just ruin that whole mystique, and what would we here on the fb board bitch about if we saw frank and kim sharing a chuckle onstage? personally, i would rather somehow timetravel back to '88 to see 'em, but dont get me wrong, if they ever did do a tour, i would definetly be there. hopefully soon i'll get to see frank and the breeders soon and then i will be happy.
