I would love to trade some FB mp3s with you. I have a live show from 2000, don't remember the exact date but I'll search it out a little later tonight. I have the 4 pre-Pixies demos which you may or may not have. I have a live solo show, once again forgot the exact date, but anyways he does almost all Pixies songs solo. I've also got several Pixies demos (Im Amazed solo demo, Broken Face solo demo, Monkey Gone To Heaven demo, Debaser demo...and a few more, can't really remember right off). But yeah, Id totally be into trading with you if you're interested bro. Get back with me.
And mdisanto.....I don't and will not trade ANYTHING that can be readily purchased by FB. Some other bands I'm not as concerned about doing that with, but FB is the man and I, as well as everyone else should purchase EVERYTHING he has officially released. When it comes to FB I want the whole "official" package so to speak.
And to Frank, if you're reading this, if you'd be interested in obtaining anything I've listed above just let me know in this thread. I know you said that your brother likes collecting that kinda stuff. And to anyone else that would be interested in obtaining live and/or rare mp3s, just let me know here in this thread. I'm definitely not stingy with any of my rare MP3s and hopefully noone else is either. So lets spread the love of the music, ok? |

Alrighty everyone tonight i'm gonna make a list of every Frank Black/Pixies mp3 i have. If you guys could too it'll make things alot easier.
Just leave yer contact addys here if you want to trade.
Mdisanto of course i don't trade any Frank/Pixies mp3 that could be bought on an album. But...i don't mind trading officially released b'sides, compilation tracks, or promos.
Yes Mike Rutherford let's spread the love of the music. With the fall of Audiogalaxy it's really hard to find some rare Frank/Pixies mp3s.
Cheers!

Doesn't trading B-sides from commercial singles create the same problem as trading tracks from commercial albums? I thought the idea was to trade non-copyrighted stuff, so as to not steal anyone's money. I can see with promos, as they usually are "not for resale."

Legally, any and all songs are copyrighted at the moment they are written on paper/napkin/whatever...or recorded to tape, etc. The reason to officially register them (for money) is to have official proof that the copyright truely does belong to you. So every Frank Black song you dig up is copyrighted, really. I don't see a problem trading unreleased/rare stuff (concerts, unreleased studio), but the moral dilemma comes in when it comes down to downloading stuff that is available for purchase (albums, some singles, etc.) |

I agree. I guess I misstated my opinion, since yeah, the copyright, while belonging specifically to whomever for the recording itself, is also originally Frank's. So the lithmus was supposed to be whether it takes money from the rightful recipient.
Incidentally, can you believe the tenacity of the recording industry of whatchamacallit to actually try and blame music piracy for recent lagging sales? First of all, during the heyday of Napster, most data indicated that the MP3 trading was boosting sales if anything. And now that the association has all but squarshed the most popular peer-to-peer channels, they try to blame them for industry's relative inability to rip off artists and consumers.
To me this is like if they got the FCC to shut down all FM stations playing their stuff, and once they got it done, they charged the radio business with causing their financial downfall.
One of these times you'd think they would consider even a brief glimpse into their own stagnant notion for promoting crappy music. Or perhaps they will yet figure out a way to sue Osama bin Laden.
