I'm sure we all have problems with teh "Death to the Pixies" tracklist, number one being that it's not chronological...if you were asked to choose the tracklist (keeping in mind it would be for consumers, not just a personal best of) what would you choose?

Here's mine..

1. Caribou
2. Holiday Song
3. Nimrod's Son
4. Levitate Me (for the record, pretty much anything off Come on Pilgrim would fit, but these are my 4)
5. River Euphrates (one of the major omissions)
6. Bone Machine
7. Where Is My Mind
8. Cactus
9. Monkey Gone to Heaven
10.Here Comes Your Man (not a personal fav, but it was a hit)
11.Debaser
12.Wave of Mutilation
13.Hey
14.Tame
15.Gouge Away
16.Velouria
17.Is She Weird
18.All Over the World (c'mon)
19The Happening
20.Allison
21.Alec Eiffel
22.Subbaculture
23.Planet of Sound
24.U-Mass
25.Letter to Memphis
26.Motorway to Roswell

Yep, it's a bit long...but i think that might be able to squeeze onto one cd. why not fill a whole cd? most pixies cds are 15 songs and only take up about 40 minutes, so i figure 26 should be no problem. I guess Dig For Fire and Gigantic were kind of hits too, so maybe through them in there as well. (songs it killed me to leave off: the rest of come on pilgrim, no. 13 baby, ana)

I'd replace I Bleed with HCYM any day.

haha I can never bring myself to try and make these kind of things, it takes me forever, but I always thought the Death to the Pixies track list was kinda weird, but thats probably why I still don't own it. I'd only get it for the second disk anyway.

The second disk makes it worth the purchase. Good quality live set.

15 songs would be fine. 26 is too many.
1.Planet of Sound (single version)
2.I Cant Forget
3.River Euphrates (single version)
4.Bone Machine
5.Hang Wire
6.Velouria
7.Mr. Grieves
8.Rock A My Soul
9.Alec Eiffel
10.The Happening
11.Debaser
12.No. 13
13.Letter to Memphis
14.Winter Long
15.Tame

Yep, I think this would cover and define the Pixies sound. 26 is too many songs. A consumer has to be enticed with a bit of every record to make them curious of what each record sounds like, then they may just go out and buy the entire LP. look at that list, even the order looks tasty and I didnt even have to think about it! I left Gigantic out because yeah its a hit, but c'mon, she only sang that and Into the White, which kinda bites.

Doesn't matter which way you cut it; there's at least one song in two from any albumn that still gives me shivers. I'm just surprised that Dig For Fire didn't feature on those two lists.

I guess that's just me again then ;-

DttP was my first actual pixies experience. i like how it wasn't in chronological order. from cecilia ann to planet of sound and then to tame and hcym, that was a truly amazing experience. what the hell was i listening to? 4 songs that sound nothing alike from a single band? i needed to check into them more. i think it's perfect how it is.

then on the live disc you get songs like hey, crackity jones(a personal favorite), and ed is dead. those make you want to get their studio versions.

all in all, it was wonderfully done. the greatest cd purchase i have ever made.

Note to jo: How is it we've never really had a conversation about the Pixies???

In no relevant order, cos I'm still in breakfast mode (pears, nectarines & large black coffee)

Bone Machine
I've Been Tired
Tame
Hey
Bleed
Dig for Fire
In Heaven
Space (I believe in)
Debaser
Rock Music
The Holiday Song
Gigantic
Planet of Sound
Is She Weird
Where Is My Mind

There, that'll do.

I mentioned the fact that I'd posted about dig for fire to my friend who got me into the Pixies and he looked appalled - Oh well...

Bloody hell! Having tried to compile one of these lists I concurr that is more difficult than trying to juggle with jelly!

I've tried to edit this and everytime I look at it I realise that there's some frigger that I adore and have neglected.

Bunch of arse and respect to other poor sod who tries to do this - point taken jo!

Sodding hell, I need more caffine!

Leah said "Note to jo: How is it we've never really had a conversation about the Pixies???"

dunno, I never really talk much about music any more, plus I just never really talk a lot about stuff anyway.. you know me, I just waffle.

on this Best Of idea, bear in mind you have to include tracks people will know (ie songs from films, ads etc etc etc that have existed post-Pixies) cause that's where the new audience is coming in (and lets try corrupt all those Avril Lavigne fans ;))

it makes it REALLY hard :)

I think I'll go on the more caffeine thing too
