UM - I'm last to know much, and I just learned that Pavement's putting out a re-release of Slanted + Enchanted, with... 33 bonus tracks - honest abe - plus the 2 dvd Slow Century, at the end of October. Liking this band, and all, I thought it would be good to post it here, in case yall didn't know.

Sweetness..one of my fav. MP3 cd's (i have a Rio Volt player, CD player that plays MP3's and WMA) has several FB albums, a few Pixies, and a couple Pavement and Stephen Malkmus albums..it's great just putting it on random play..
Pavement were great. Long live Malkmus.

Question: Never got into pavement. What is their best album for starters? Not the most creative or artsy or whatever - that comes later. I'm talking about the album where almost every song is killer. thx in advance

Dunno what the best Pavement album is... Yeah, I guess WZ would make it. Everytime I say Brighten The Corners is my fave Pavement album, everyone gets mad and insults me so I guess my opinion about this band is worthless.

I've never been into pavement that much but Malkmus solo album is great, lot of very good songs

just to make me seem cooler, i live down the street from Steve West (the drummer from pavement), and I recorded my CD there.
I could ask him about the new shizz being released. I could also ask him any other questions anyone has.
BTW He is BIG fan of the Pixies. We talked about them a bit. He never really talked to FB/BF but he had an interesting story to tell once.
Something about some festival were both Pavement and Pixies were playing way back in the day, and some fan handed FB a his demo tape and FB threw at him and said something like do you really think I want to hear this? I think it's funny.

Yea, during the Cult of Ray tour, I attended the Charleston, SC show at the Music Farm, and there were some really shitty FB fans there, mostly drunk asses shouting. I assumed Frank thought we were all like the minority assholes there, cause another fan approached him with a book, (she was probably trying to be cute), and Frank took it from her and without saying a thing, threw it behind him in the dark part of the stage. I guess he mellowed out afterwards, cause he posed for a few pictures for me, and autographed my Cult of Ray CD after the show. |

Sign me up with the Brighten The Corners people.
I still play stereo in the same session as gigantic; just for the similar bass based intros...
Funnier to cos the sequence on the album; of stereo followed by shady lane reminds me of gigantic and Euphrates.
Anyone else noticed that?

Slanted And Enchanted - Luxe & Reduxe, what a value. 4AD could have learned something with this. All that greatness for and for a low price too.

I just watched the 'Slow Century' docu. The songs at the end from their last gig (which I was at) almost brought a tear to my eye, but y'know, they were just a band...

Brighten the corners and Wowee Zowee are two of my most played albums when I'm londgboarding... they are well good, but I would have to say that Brighten the corners edges it. Pavements last album has its moments though... sorry but I have forgotten what its called... |

each album grows on you immensely. wowee zowee has 18 amazing songs. start there. then go backwards to hear looser pavement and forwards to hear tighter pavement. it's all good.

both the s + E (luxe and reduxe) and slow century are awesome. the s+e reissue has so much stuff on it. it's great. the dvd rocks too. as for my favorite albume i would have to say slanted and enchanted. the all the others one are very close behind though.

I don't understand the point in remastering lo-fi recordings. Like that re-master of God Ween Satan? I vote for Crooked Rain. I thought Terror Twilight was a steaming pile of poo. |

atheist4., i think the point in remastering any album is to sell/re-sell more units... they simply re-package the album w/ new artwork & photos and compress the hell out of the recording....
my fav pavement cd would have to be "brighten".
