Ok, everyone, this is a survivor game that wont end for a while (and it's not moderated by Vovat! haha!).

1. His Kingly Cave (SSMVGD version)
2. His Kingly Cave (Devil's Workshop version)

Which do you prefer? I listened to the SSMVGD version last night and I think the DW version just blows that one out of the water. The rhythm guitar sounds better, his voice is stronger, and superior sound quality overall.

So, chose your favorite, and give reasons supporting your favorite if you want.

Strong vocals, better rhythm guitar, sound quality?! Feh! What about spirit, what about sui generis, what about something being more than the sum of it's howsoever technically perfect parts? SSMVGD version all the way! It sounds great! I (and I know I've said this before) love that it sounds just like an Elvis Costello (Attractions-era, that is) song; this makes it a great joke--a song about an experience with one Elvis (P.) in the mode of another (C.). Very meta.

The DW version is soooo pokey and slow. I hate that fucking guitar effect, whatever you call it. The lo-fi SSMVGD version has a much better beginning, and it sounds so menacing. Has that early 60's garage-cool sound, great keyboards, and just generally so much more going on. They just produced all the sass right out of it on DW.

So anyway, that's the vote for me (and my entire household). We race each other to the stereo to skip it every single time DW is on.

No way I could choose between the 2 versions. Both are amazing.

You should wait for the (tentatively titled) "You Ain't Me" disc... then we will have three to choose from. :)

... yeah right.

I like elements of both, it's certainly not an easy choice, but if I had to make one, I'd say the DW version.

1) The effect is called rotovibe. and I think it sounds amazing, that's one of my favorite parts of the song!

2) To be honest I have never heard SSMVGD....yeah, i'm pathetically deprived in that respect! Just never had the opportunity to acquire it, I guess....so I can't draw judgment on which version is 'better.' But, mereubu, I find it hard to believe that you would actually SKIP the song altogether every time on DW! it's like the Come on Pilgrim 'Vamos'...i know the Surfer Rosa one is a lot better but I wouldn't dream of skipping it every time I listen to Pilgrim. Oh well, whatever tickles your fancy.

I'll have to go with the DW version. It's definitely more moody and eerie than SSMVGD. Both have their place, though. It took me a while to get used to the rotovibe on DW.

Eh, so sue me. At least both versions of Vamos are the same tempo. I heard the SSMVGD version first, and it's faster. Once you (and by "you" I mean me, of course) get used to a fast, feisty version of a song it's very hard to invest yourself in a slower, dirgelike version. Ever hear a remix that you really dislike? It's like that for me.

It's the only song FB song I've routinely skipped in 14 years of faithful patronage, so I think I'm entitled to dislike one song.

BTW, there are a number of nice people on the board who would be happy to set you up with a copy.

Holy Crap! I just went to find the link to that exact thread and i get back here and you've beat me to it.

I think I should have said in my first post that I like the SSMVGD version, but I prefer DW over it.

Hey DrBone, I tried to email you but I guess you don't have your email in your profile. Email me and we can discuss getting to you a copy of sunday sunny mill (as long as you don't live in Australia or the North Pole or anything like that)

I like the DW shop version...the one on SSMVGD never jumped out at me as a great song, but the DW did. Odd though, because I usually prefer lo-fi versions of songs.

Shipping stuff to China doesn't cost much, but then again I'd have to work out how I'd get money to you.... if you find out how much it costs then I'll find out how to get money to you. I have a friend returning to US in the next month or two so I could give her money and she could send you a cheque.... what do you think???

DW definitly
when i first listened to DW last summer i stopped at His Kingly Cave and listened to it for about 10 times. the rotovibe (sounds like tremolo and wahwah mixed together) and the reverb in the whole song creates a special athmospheare wich i miss in the SSMVGD-version. it's probably my most favourite song of all the time.

Anyone want to hook a brutha up with the fabled SSMVGD? I live in the U.S. (in Virginia) and would be more than happy to dish out money for a blank CD and shipping. Let me know, either IM or e-mail me...(info is in my profile)
