re: the above comment; yes, that song is "Jewel" off the Reeves Gabrels record of the same name. Is that related to the original post or non sequitor? Please specify.

Maybe it's the real title for Boom Chicka Boom? Or maybe it was never released...but I don't see a reason why he'd get publishing rights for a song which was never really recorded in a form which is unavailable to the public (private demos, etc.). |

rice and beans music is the publisher and that means it was written when he was in the pixies, so nothing new I guess, no new collerbaration with Joey. Wasn't there a track that was recorded for the purple tape but was never released with it. Gary Smith was the producer, so maybe that's the one.

although I'm sure it was called something else than 'Gary is my name' but who knows? It could be a joke and there was a good reason to publish it, they were going to record it. But this is all speculation from yours truly....
We haven't solved the I Hate All Things Evil mystery either.... Maybe someone should ask him

I think it's safe to say that "I Hate All Things Evil" is the track name someone happened to give that track when they submitted the album to CDDB. |

"My Name Is Gary" is a song written by FB and Santiago last year for a 'short' film entitled, "Low Budget Time Machine" that has not yet been released. It is the only non-Pixies song in the Rice And Beans Music catalog.

I hate all things evil is probably, like El barto said, just a name someone happened to give that track when they submitted the album to CDDB.
And yes these are almost exactly El Barto's words. What's CDDB anyway?
I was checking the BMI last night. If you're in a great mood, check out Robbert Pollard, that will chear you up. 567 songs!

Would someone please fill me in on this "I Hate all Things Evil" situation. Is this supposed to be a title of a Frank Black song? If so, where does it appear? There is no "I Hate All Things Evil" on the BMI site. Any help will be appreciated. |

I posted this on the here comes your man section When I put my SR and COP cd in my computer, my computer list track 22 (which is levitate me) as I Hate All Things Evil. Actually there are only 21 tracks on the disc, but the ''Fuckin'die'' thing is a seperate track as well. That's why the disc doesn't do what the tracklisting on the back cover says. 21 Levitate Me is 22 Levitate Me. So on the computer he reads more tracks than songs, so it says I hate all things evil. Why?

Bill:
I just found the same thing, there are 22 tracks and track #22 reads : "I Hate All Things Evil"
Apparently, the only way one is going to see this title is if they insert Surfer Rosa into their computer and call for the titles in iTunes or whatever media player they have. And you're right. the "fuckin' die" dialog is track 11. Obviously, the songs after track 11 will not coincide with the song listing in the album notes. So, why is track 22 titled "I Hate All Things Evil'? Stay tuned... I'll get the answer

Well, gang, from what I have been able to gather, the "I Hate All Things Evil" track (it is surmised) was added by the encoding engineer back in 1988 when the 4 AD version (this should only be found on the 4 AD version) was originally mastered and encoded. Apparently the encoding engineer saw 22 tracks, but only 21 song titles and decided to enter the phantom title. Why he (or she) chose the title "I Hate All Things Evil" is up for conjecture. My theory is that it must have been a late night session and the engineer was tired because, not only did he (or she) discover there were 22 tracks, but only 21 songs titles, he (or she) also read "I've Been Tired" (track # 20) as "I've Been Fixed." This latter error is easily understandable when one looks at the cursive style of font used on the art work. Any overly tired engineer could have easily mistaken the "T" for an "F" and the "r" for an "x" Of course, there are other conspiracy theories, but they are as valid as any concocted by the readers of this forum. So, despite my theory, etc., anything is possible. Anyway, suffice it to say that the hounds are on the scent of the trail, yet, whether or not it leads back to 1988 and the original culprit is a matter of pure luck. |

no, bill, fumanbru was actually referring to Old Man River's remarkable luck with the ladies.
all kidding aside, Pussy Galore was a Bond girl in one of the films (Roger Moore era if I remember correctly). I think that's where the band got their name from as well... |

i was referring to Old Man River's user profile. he's listed his name as James Bond. so i was enquiring how's pussy galore (but not that it's any of my business.) pussy galore was in goldfinger (or was goldfinger in pussy galore?). sean connery played 007. |
