I don't see the point in releasing another compilation cd, who wants to buy a mix of album tracks people have already got, unless the add a couple of previously unreleased tunes.

What ever happened to all this special remastering we've been told about? In a way, I wouldn't want to buy the albums again either, but I think I'd prefer if those promised remasters were released. Oh well...Can't believe 4ad's not doing something a little more special. A lot of bands, when their albums are released posthumously with embellishments and enhancements, experience a surge of critical attention and popularity, even if on a lesser scale. Think of the Wipers, or Elvis Costello's excellent reissues (to be used as a model, if you ask me), or Pavement's slanted and Enchante (another prime example.) |

I'm sure it's coming...trust me (the deluxe editions).
I think the reason for the new best of cd is that the Pixies have this immortal stance, as in, every year a whole new batch of kids discover them. They're kind of like the Beatles of underground rock music, you have to have them in your collection, it's like a touchstone. So this new best of disc will appeal to all the new fans who discover them and dont know which album to get/who only would consider buying 1 or 2 albums because of the internet mp3 thing. |

And I mean, Death to the Pixies didn't make a lot of sense, it was really expensive and coupled a best of disc with a live disc? To have it perfectly work out you'd need to find a neophyte fan and split the cd so you could have the live disc and they could have the best of. Just a best of makes more sense. |

Pixies Albums to Be Reissued in May YOU FUCKING BUY Ryan Schreiber reports: After being tied to Elektra since, like, forever, 4AD's contracts with the major label are slowly expiring, gradually winning back the British indie's complete rights to their back catalog. As such, the label has plans to reissue countless albums that have long been available co-branded with the Elektra logo-- some in their first-ever exclusive 4AD pressings.
Earlier this year, the label won back the rights to the Pixies catalog, and needless to say, the repackaging process is already well underway. All of the band's formal studio releases-- 1987's Come On Pilgrim EP, 1988's Surfer Rosa, 1989's Doolittle, 1990's Bossanova, and 1991's Trompe le Monde-- as well as The Pixies Live at the BBC, and Complete B-Sides (the latter receiving its first stateside pressing ever) are slated to hit stores on May 20th.
According to a label spokesperson, though, the discs won't be receiving any embellishments. In fact, the new editions will be-- perhaps unfortunately for those of us digging for that last bit of fire we hadn't yet heard-- virtually identical to the originals: no remastering, no additional artwork, and no bonus tracks. "[4AD has] already released all the songs on the B-Sides compilation, and then there's Live at the BBC... there wasn't much left over."
However, the label is currently planning two final Pixies releases for September: the current two-disc best-of/live release Death to the Pixies will be discontinued to make room for a brand new best-of compilation, and an as-yet-untitled DVD featuring multiple concerts in their entirety, along with all the band's videos, and exclusive interview footage.
anyway: "there wasn't much left over" well there was something then wasn't there?

I got the box set Death To... with the gold paint all over Gils story inside. Saw it in Tower with greet glee, and thought it was a double cd best of, then got an amazing surprize when I listened to the second CD! I have a friend in Ireland as well who only got the best of cd, which I think is pretty poor.

Your right BG, it is Gary Smith, sorry!, but I still cant read it! Contrary to what other people have said I think the live cd is great, great energy and all the songs are spot on and some sound even better, like Hang Wire and Rock Music, well worth getting. Does anyone have FB live in Paris?, another cool live album and the kitchen tapes are brillant!

Death to the Pixies was only released as a 2CD in the US. I thought we all knew this by now? Sheesh
Everywhere else, it is just the best of disc.
And everywhere else Surfa Rosa and Come on Pilgrim come on the one CD. Which sucks, a sthey deserve to be sold seperately, and I hate not having them both seperately. |

Have a look on amazon.com - you might be able to get a used copy or something. That's what i did about a year ago and ended up with a beautiful slip case thing with both CDs, it's great.

Better than the 2-CD set... Try to find the 4x10" box... It looks great and you get 2 extra tracks (demo versions of Broken Face and I'm Amazed if I remember well...)

I've noticed (or maybe it's my imagination) that Doolittle is slightly flat or sharp, can't remember which one. Or maybe I haven't played along with it in so long, and the last time I did I sucked at tuning. Could be that one...
