they aren't going to be remastered. However, the track problems with Surfer Rosa will be fixed (the talky bit has been put into the relevant song, but its too early and I can't remember:))
so there's nothing new - its just really getting the 4ad stock out into shops... so don't buy if you're expecting something new - cause it aint! The DVD will follow later this year. |

I mean, if I'm not mistaken, were't the Pixies album all re-issued 2 years ago? Now they're midline price and have stickers that say "featuring..." certain songs. |

OH man, what happens to the diehard fan who orders those all from amazon and then finds out they're not even remastered when they come to the door. |

They should release a Pixies live album instead of fannying around with releasing crappy 20 minute long demo sessions, which songs don't sound a great deal different to the album versions. The Death to the Pixies live cd was not bad but could have been alot better. A double live album of songs from all four albums would be great, much better value than recording sessions in my opinion.

i don't think anything needs to be re-released unless they find some more live recordings of good quality (i disagree, i think they were a relatively good live band, i've heard MUCH worse) or some "lost" songs, which is even more unlikely than the former. re-releasing and remastering the albums i think is a waste of time, i like them the way they are. |

they're only being re-released as 4ad now have the rights as Elektra have since god knows when in the US. That's all. The same thing is happening with the Cocteau Twins as well, at the moment. (although their catalogue got remastered).
There'll be a promotional sampler in stores with Cocteaus and Pixies tracks on it, to help promote the campaign - its a pretty big deal for 4ad to get the rights back on these releases - its not milking something, more that Elektra don't have the rights to sell them now (because they no longer have rights) so its just getting the new stock out there. It'll also be the first time the b-sides album is available in the US commercially.
the only differences are a few little artwork bits, they'll all be with clear cd trays (rather than crappy grey) and yeah, I think the Surfer Rosa artwork has been re-done, although I didn't like the way it came out - it seemed less sharp.
The only new thing that is scheduled (as I've said so many damn times its tattooed on my eyelids) is the DVD, which is going to be a worldwide release, now 4ad have worldwide rights. |

yeah, what is wrong with the artwork?, besides the fact that some stupid lady at the record store wouldn't let me buy it without an adult present because there's a topless girl on the cover?

Releasing another decent live Pixies albums is by no way milking it..... I'd love to have another Pixies live album as I can never get my hands on Pixies bootlegs.

straight from the pages of pitchforkmedia.com:
Pixies Albums to Be Reissued in May YOU FUCKING BUY Ryan Schreiber reports: After being tied to Elektra since, like, forever, 4AD's contracts with the major label are slowly expiring, gradually winning back the British indie's complete rights to their back catalog. As such, the label has plans to reissue countless albums that have long been available co-branded with the Elektra logo-- some in their first-ever exclusive 4AD pressings.
Earlier this year, the label won back the rights to the Pixies catalog, and needless to say, the repackaging process is already well underway. All of the band's formal studio releases-- 1987's Come On Pilgrim EP, 1988's Surfer Rosa, 1989's Doolittle, 1990's Bossanova, and 1991's Trompe le Monde-- as well as The Pixies Live at the BBC, and Complete B-Sides (the latter receiving its first stateside pressing ever) are slated to hit stores on May 20th.
According to a label spokesperson, though, the discs won't be receiving any embellishments. In fact, the new editions will be-- perhaps unfortunately for those of us digging for that last bit of fire we hadn't yet heard-- virtually identical to the originals: no remastering, no additional artwork, and no bonus tracks. "[4AD has] already released all the songs on the B-Sides compilation, and then there's Live at the BBC... there wasn't much left over."
However, the label is currently planning two final Pixies releases for September: the current two-disc best-of/live release Death to the Pixies will be discontinued to make room for a brand new best-of compilation, and an as-yet-untitled DVD featuring multiple concerts in their entirety, along with all the band's videos, and exclusive interview footage.

I always got a kick out of record stores putting some sticker right over her tata's. Yet they leave that Blind Faith album untouched - and she's underage!
By the way, does anyone know the story behind that lady on the cover of Surfer Rosa? Is she just a hired "hand"?
