Well I'm just gonna be nailing all the good concerts this summer and I really want to start recording some. I have a pretty nice (about $300) Sony minidisc recorder that I got a couple of years ago and I was wondering what the best kind of mic is to use for recording shows on these things and also where I can get one.

If you can get a condenser mic, you'd prolly get better sound quality.. I like the AKG C1000, they're cheapish (~$300), and you can stick a 9 volt battery in them instead of getting a Phantom Power source.

You can prolly rent mics from a local music shop, i'd do that and see which one you like the most..

Well, he's looking to record shows...therefore, he's going to want a small, unnoticeable mic. Good luck hiding that AKG ;) There are a number of tiny, good (stereo) mics that people use to record shows with to minidisk, I just can't tell you which are the best cause I don't have any experience with em.

These are the microphones I use

I am very happy with them. They are small stereo cardioid directional mics that don't pick up a lot of crowd noise around you. Great in loud situations.

Here's a link to the bass rollover unit I use

add bass rollover switches for $20

I'm using a Sharp MD-MT180 minidisc, mics plugged into line-in with recording level set around 26.

Here's a great site for MiniDisc info:
