It's from a college demo from who knows what year. Charles apparently recorded some songs on a boombox in his dorm room. The songs have no title that we know of, so whoever uncovered the tape just named the songs from the lyrics. There are 4 songs:

Draw Attention
Fight With Honour
Just Keeping In Time
Silhouette

Someone within the last few years gave Charles a copy at a show and he said he hadn't heard them in a while. That oughta be weird, getting a bootleg of a tape you recorded way back in college. Also, I'm pretty sure that he said the chord progressions were later used for Pixies songs. I think there's an old message on the AbstractPlain somewhere...if I dig it up, I'll post it here.

I dug up this old post from FBFP on yahoo! that I made.

Subject: PRE-PIXIES SONG

Hi everyone just thought you might want to
download a song from my computer called DRAW ATTENTION. I
found it on E-Bay a few months back. Someone was
selling a cd-r of demo songs charles did before the
pixies he (the guy on e-bay) had a link to his homepage and you were
allowed to download one track from it. He said it was
recorded from a boom box (anyone remember those monsters).
so the sound isn't the best but it is 100% charles
frank black francis thompson singing and playing the
guitar. to download the song you have to have NAPSTER and
do a search for PIXIES, FRANK BLACK, CHARLES
THOMPSON or DRAW ATTENTION. If you don't have NAPSTER.
Then download it at http://www.napster.com
and then you can download just about any of your favorite
songs from other fans online. I didn't win the
bid on e-bay and i can't remember the web site were i
downloaded the song.

Though I didn't win or buy the CD off of e-bay, but I must take credit for the name the song has become. The first name I gave it when I downloaded it was:
FRANK_BLACK_CHARLES_THOMPSON_PRE-PIXIES_DRAW_ATTENTION.MP3

since then it has been shortened.

where does boom-chick-a-boom fit into the greater scheme of things? if that wasn't pre-pixies, was that really early pixies days?

i have keeping in time and draw attention (starts with lyrics "my haricut cost 80 dollars...")
but i never got fight with honour or silhouette from audiogalaxy. where do you get those?

Boom-Chik-A-Boom is from a Boston radio show in 86 I believe. It's a greaaaat song, I really wish they would have re-recorded it.

Draw Attention rocks, Keeping in Time uses the chords D A Em G, as in Here Comes Your Man, and Silhouette features the chords used in the chorus to Break My Body :)

Weirdly, I've always thought these sound more like 'Frank' material than the Pixies, even though they come from before then...
