hey everyone.......just wondering if anyone who checks this site will be going to the show tonight at the Magic Stick. i'm from Northern Michigan, so i only get to see them play when they're in Detroit.

anyway, the last time i really saw them was when they played at St. Andrews. It was the Pistilero tour. the show was great and i know some of you may have been there. they played some real rockers(in my opinion)..........i need peace, i switched you, man of steel, so. bay, etc.(lot's more). it was freaking loud, i loved it.

i did see them in Chicago last year.....but it was a Sunday night....i got there an hour early(so i thought)......but i walked in and they were already playing.......i couldn't see shit.....so it really kind of sucked.......so i've written that show off.

anyone know what's up with the Magic Stick? is it a good spot to see a show? feel free to let me know, and maybe i'll see some of ya'll there.

hey I think I have been to the Magic Stick...its a bar on top of another place I do believe (a bowling alley maybe) with a bunch of pool tables. Last time I was there it was pretty cool, although I can't even remember who I saw there..but as I recall you should be able to enjoy Frank and the boys thoroughly.

I totally wanted to go to this show, and even though Detroit is only 3 hours from me, and I would love to call off of work to go and rock out with him again, I'm gonna play the role of Miss Responsible.

Please let everyone know how great it is afterwards though. I need to live vicariously through you. I loooooooooved Black Rider when I saw him in Cleveland on the 24th. It was amazing.

Rock on!

happy are my mind and my soul and my heart

I was at the St. Andrews show! 7/8/99...great show, my first Frank Black live experience. I shit myself when they came out and broke into Man of Steel. I currently live in PA, though. I've never been to the Magic Stick, but it's either on top of the Majestic (Magic Stick...Majestic...!) or next to it. Have fun!

I was at the show (first time I'd seen him). Here's the setlist:

Where Is My Mind?
Robert Onion
Bullet
California Bound
Mr. Grieves
Los Angeles
Headache
New House of the Pope (I'm pretty sure this is the title)
Whiskey in Your Shoes
Nimrod's Son
Velvety
Six Sixty-Six
Cold Heart of Stone
Jane the Queen of Love
Gouge Away
Heloise
Hermaphroditos
Crackity Jones
I Want Rock & Roll

encore:
new song (I guess it's called "Sign I Was Looking For"? some lyrics I jotted down were "that is my promise" and "I thought I'd gravitate to the hills of central France")
Monkey Gone to Heaven
The Black Rider

I don't know how it compared to other shows, but this one rocked. Looking at other setlists it seems a little shorter than most. Anybody else see it?

(ps. Yes, the Magic Stick is above a bowling alley. It's a good venue - I saw Interpol there last year.)

That's the first thing I thought when I saw the set list...it looks pretty short! Maybe he just doesn't like Detroit. I could sympathise....it's a dump! Was the audience rather large?

yeah detroit sucks ass, i wish he could come to ann arbor.

the bar/club/poolhall was packed. so i guess it was a pretty good turnout.

i was right up front the whole time, it was a rockin' show, they played for just over an hour. not a long show but, certainly got my $13 worth.

frank screamed 'thank you' a billion times at the end of black rider. he looked genuinely pleased for a moment at the end too, when he stepped forward. but then the whole front surged toward the stage 'coz we thought he was going to shake our hands or at least slap fives around, but he stepped back. he looked a little surprised even, maybe.

it was a good show. i wouldn't have minded if he played longer, but i was certainly tired after singing along to every song except those 2 which i didn't know (new house of the pope and whatever that other new one in the encore was) :)

hopefully he can get a show in ann arbor sometime and he'll enjoy himself more, maybe play longer. it certainly wasn't a great stage. small place, etc.
