Fav Frank concert? Easy. March 8 2001. The Botanique, Brussels. I've seen FB 3 times before, twice with the Catholics, once solo, but NOTHING prepared me for this show.
The other concerts of FB I've seen had 25, 24 and 22 songs. This one had 35. It had songs from all 6 albums, from Oddballs, no less then SIX Pixies songs, and several covers, including John the Revelator which might just be one of the best covers he's ever done.
More important, it had these great interpretations of the songs. Six Sixty Six was the most noticable, with the spooky, dark and scary power chords. Gauge Away and Nimrod's Son were also different, slower and cooler. Fiddle Riddle was all country. In, I Switched You, Rich Gilbert played the guitar with his heel!
The band sounded amazing. Dave Philips just adds so much. The other concerts I've seen had guitars, bass and drums. This one had keyboards and pedal steel guitars. The sound was so much richer, more powerful.
But best of all was Frank himself. He actually talked to the crowd a bit, made everyone laugh by switching Dog Gone to Los Angeles after the first line, and even JUMPED on stage. He played lead on 'Monkey', and generally was amazing.

Well I've seen Frank once and a half so that question is easy... Saw him in '96 in Paris, and then in 2001 at the Route Du Rock festival but there was some really heavy traffic and I missed half of the show... This time I'm prepared to follow the entire European tour at least!

Really ? My fav concert was 2 days later : March 10 2001. Ubu Club, Rennes, France. I took some pictures that you can find on Martin Moeller's site : http://home.arcor.de/mamoeller/pictures/rennes2001_0.htm
So far I've seen Frank 6 times : Lyon, Marseille, Paris (x2), Rennes and, Route du Rock St Malo (same as Denis, but I managed to arrive just on time).
I don't think I'll ever attend a concert as good as Rennes. I think we've had 37 songs. All amazing. The place was so small, Frank & the Catholics could just fit on the scene.

I saw two shows in San Francisco on a Friday and Saturday last year at the end of the DITS tour. They were the only shows where Eric Drew Feldman played with the band. It was a full Catholic lineup.

My fave gig was either Sheffield, England in February last year, where I was able to share a stage with FB and C before diving back in the crowd, or when he played a one off gig in Highbury as a warm up for the Reading gig. They kicked arse big style, opened with Crackity Jones, played Holiday Song, Gouge Away, as well as classics such as I gotta move, Speedy Marie, Abstract Plain. I was shitfaced as I'd been drinking all day, but this was one hell of a gig and cannot wait to see FB & C when they next tour. |

Mike, I saw FB (with Moris Tepper opening) at The Mint in November 2001. Fantastic show. It was almost like having him play in your living room.
