I luckily got to see them once before the end. At Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

Barkmarket opened.

It was great to see them. Looking back though, and comparing it to current shows, you could tell it was the end.

Really, despite the fact that I love the Pixies equally as much as his current incarnation, you must admit that the band, The Catholics, are SO much more capable. Period. They are an awesome live juggernaut and they are everything I had ever hoped for in a Rock band. And yes, I am a little bit excited about seeing them tonight.

my sister did : at the leysin rock festival (bootleg : subbacultcha).
it's funny, because, when you heard the bootleg, you must admit that the live seems to be a good one, Black francis scream so much !!!! but my sister, the first thing she said about the concert was : he was drunk !!

I was able to see them twice. July '91 in Munich, and again in early '92 (Feb.?) in Milwaukee. The one I missed kills me, they played Milwaukee in '88 at a tiny club on a Sunday night in front of a dozen or so people. For some reason or another, I was not one of them....DOH!!

I saw the Pixies 3 times. Plus I saw 'Black Francis' alone and electric when he was playing/paying his way cross-country. Still the best show I ever saw.

I regret not to see Pixies live, but anyway I've seen Frank Black with his band twice in Barcelona and I think these are the best concerts I've ever been. I guess if he's able to keep briething between song and song.

I saw the Pixies in Lisboa in 1991, june, at Coliseu do recreios...a gigantic show, I still have a tape recording of that show, a bit bad one. before the show they went to the hall of that venue and start waving hands to the masses...Charles was a little less fatter, but very smily, so as Kim. The show was an electric storm and at the last song-Tame-, the room lights went white and people jump so furiously that the flor oponed a hole ! What a show, I was 21. I´´ll never forget...

Saw Pixies on I belive to be their 1st ever gig in the Uk at the Mean Fiddler ,London in about 1987/88 ish, they were supporting The Throwing Muses,Who I loved and whom I went to the gig for, I had the Come on pilgrim LP/EP (Incidentaly the last piece of vinyl i Bought) which I loved so was curious to see them live. To say I was blown away and a love affair started is an understatement,You know that hair standing on end sensation, I had it all week.
I think I saw them twice more at the Town and Country club on various tours and the best for me at the Amsterdam Paradiso Club about 1990/91 ish to date the best gig I have ever witnessed. The whole weekend was surreal but basicly got to Amsterdam Ticketless, To find they were the biggest and most anticipated thing to hit town since the Germans,Tickets, not a Fucking chance. In desperation on the day of the gig get down and stake out the venue, manage to meet Kim on her way out, absolutley lovely lady stuck all 5 of us on the guest list, she was gobsmacked we had travelled from England for the gig, Out walk the rest of the band que lots of akward silence, These are my idols what do you say,for fuck sake...
Anyway everything was perfect and I witnessed perfection on stage absolutly stunning show,The music parallysed me.

Sep 89 Dodger Stadium (w/Cure/Love n Rockets) songs played alphabetical order Bone machine to Where is my mind. Short set but they were the opening band.
Mar 90 UC Irvine. Perhaps the best show I've ever been to. Cecilia Ann opener followed by 2 1/2 hours of pure Pixie bliss.
Dec 90? Hollywood Palladium (w/Primus/Janes Addiction). I like the other bands but I was there for the Pixies. They stole the show.
Dec 90? Ventura Theatre. Opened with UK Surf, closed with Wave of mutilation. Too short of a show but it rocked.
I couldn't bring myself to pay $35 bucks to see them open for U2 (not that it wouldn't have been worth $35 but I knew that U2 would be getting most of the money and they were just beginning into their bigger than Jesus ego stage). Besides, I'd just catch them on their next tour...Doh!
I could go on as I've seen Frank at least once on every tour since (never going to fall for the "I'll catch him next time" again).
Cherished moment, Frank played UCSB my senior year as a warmup show for the Teenager tour. I got front row (held in the largest lecture hall on campus where I had several classes, talk about weird) and Frank asked for volunteers from the audience to hop on stage and earn an advance copy of his new cd. I got pulled on stage to sing any FB song of my choosing, I chose Brackish boy but kind of fucked up the words in my drunken excitement. I wish I had a picture of me with my arm around Frank's shoulder,oh well next time...

I saw them in Belfast - 88 or 89 or 90.
It's gotta be one of the best days of my life - they were playing on a school night and I wasn't allowed to go, but i got home from school about 4 and went down on my knees and begged my mum to let me go, and she gave in when my big sister who was going said she'd look out for me (she did too- went into the off-license for me!). So got a bus into Derry towncentre and went to the ticket shop, but the guy had already gone to get the bus to the gig, but I just managed to catch him and the bus before it left. All that was left was balcony tickets which turned out to be great because after a few songs moshing it was great to go up there and watch a couple of thousand people hurling themselves about!
Pale Saints supported them - they were great too.

Oh yeah, saw Frank Black do an acoustic set at The Trip to Tipp thing a couple of years later as well.

i was recently checking out something on eBay, it was a booklet of bands that were going to be in the area that month. it had a pixies concert preview for the day i was born, i was pretty f'ing angry about that because it sucks to be so young and to be so blown away by a band that hasn't released an album since you were a year old. i try to keep myself in bootlegs, though, and i can tell when they're either drunk or stoned because of pretty inexcusable missings of cues and such, but all in all, from what i can hear and see on tape, their live energy was incredible. i would kill just to be a little bit older, old enough to have seen their shows and to have been into them when they were still in full swing. i guess that's what drew me to fb&tc, the fact that he was still around and making music. . .and good music at that.

Saw them twice.

First show was in Nov or Dec of 1990 at the Ritz in New York. I had just gotten off of active duty (Navy) in October but bought two tickets anyway. I'd been gone from the neighborhood for 5 years so it was hard to find anyone to go with so I went alone. Going to a concert alone is not the most fun thing to do unless, I guess, you are a reviewer or a photographer. I had the extra ticket and sold it very quick. Some lucky girl payed face value, $25. I knew she was a real fan. I could tell by the relief in her voice when I handed her the ticket. I could have sold it for more, but I didn't care as long as I got what I paid back and a real fan saw the show. I spent most of the show in the balcony, near the sound guy. Good show but really hard to get into it when you are alone.

Second show was awesome. It was Feb 5 1992 and less then a month earlyer, Jan 9, I met my future wife, Kasia. It was a spur of the moment thing. I must remind you youngins there was no internet so finding out when your favorite band was coming to town was not as easy, expecially when they weren't a advertisement draw. I told her we were going to see the Pixies in concert, but I had no tickets. It was at the same venue, the Ritz. We left early and were lucky enough to buy them at the door. Can you believe that, WHEW!! We walked up to the front of the stage, maybe 2nd row deep, by the left side and stood right infront of Joey Santiago for the whole show. The only downside to the show was when this over zelous fan got on stage and desided to do a stage dive and kicked my wife in the head. I reacted by taking his foot and he lost what little ballance he had left and went face first into the floor. He drifted into the crowd when he arose. I still hold that show as one of my all time favorites. I know this show is one of the live ones available for sale. I'm pretty sure I've seen two versions, one short but better quality & one long but bad quality. It would be interesting to hear it after all these years. Good times.

At the risk of sounding extremely crude...I think I would give my left testicle to have a chance to see the Pixies live.

Yeah me too. I was lucky enough to see Frank at Reading Festival two years ago though. I'd only got into the Pixies a few months earlier and until the last 2 weeks I'd never heard any of his post-Pixies stuff so the only songs I knew were the 4 Pixies ones he played - Gouge Away (opened with that!), Holiday Song, Monkey Gone To Heaven and Mr Grieves. It was fantastic singing along to Monkey with all these blokes that were obviously Pixies fans ten years earlier. Hope I get to see him again.

They got a ranch they call No. 51!
