I though "moshing" was passe. I don't get it, maybe I'm getting old. I did slam dance at a show by The Clash some 20 or so years ago but I don't really see the practice as being stylistically necessary with Frank's music. I really don't think Frank cares that much for it either, that's why the show lasted only about an hour and a half and had a weenie encore.
Then again maybe I'm getting old.

actually, the show was a little under 2hrs. same songs number wise as he's been playing on the tour. and 2-3 songs is the typical encore for them. usually 2. from seeing him a few times recently, i actually think frank was enjoying the craziness. he basked in front of the crowd for a big after show ovation which is something he doesn't usually do. |

that said, moshing is stupid. american audiences can't seem to get the festival style jumping thing down - i guess it's akin to the metric system - it may makes sense but we like doing things the messy way. |

For all who are down the pike, here's what the setlist for St. Pete (the show, not the in-store, of course) was....
1 Where is My Mind 2 Bullet 3 Los Angeles 4 Robert Onion 5 New House of the Pope 6 Mr. Grieves 7 California Bound 8 Six Sixty Six 9 Holiday 10 Velvety 11 Nimrod's Son 12 Gouge Away 13 How You Went So Far 14 Sign I was Looking for (?) New! 15 Sir Rockabye 16 Monkey Gone to Heaven 17 Cactus 18 Crackity Jones 19 I Want Rock and Roll 20 Hermaphraditos 21 Nadine
encore 1 Farewell Bend 2 Black Rider
As you can see, it was a mix of a lot of the same material as has been played on the other dates, but arranged in a very hard-soft-hard mix, befitting the general mania of the night. Since I was trying to enjoy the show and not be a TOTAL stenographer, I used an almost illegible shorthand....and in the back 5 of the set lost my ballpoint in the pit, so apologies to all future FB historians for any errors or omissions! |
