i've been listening to the beach boys a lot lately so i finally decided to see if there was a fan club or something on the internet and i noticed much to my surprise that mike love and bruce johnston with a backup band are touring right now as the beach boys, and so far i have plans to go to the show at the wild adventures theme park in valdosta, ga on april 26. I was just wondering if anyone has heard them play and what they sound like and if they play beach boys songs or new songs. |

Ahh, the Beach Boys travelling jukebox! I guess it's nice to see them live if you enjoy all their hit songs, but there's a great divide in the Beach Boys. So now, you can either go see these Beach Boys perform live, or you can go see the genius Brian Wilson perform. I would kill to see Brian Wilson, and I can't wait till he comes back around. I think most Beach Boys fans (especially fans of their peak greatness, which I would say is between Today! and SMiLE) would rather see Brian Wilson. The Beach Boys that tour now are pretty much just a travelling jukebox. Mike Love is a dick. |

yeah i would rather see brian too. Wish he was on tour right now. Anyways I only have 2 beach boy cds right now: Pet Sounds, and a combo CD of both Beach Boys Concert and Live in London. There's just so many to choose from. Does anyone have any suggestions on good CDs to buy. I'm definitely more into the stuff off pet sounds than the surf-sounding stuff, although i like both. |

i would recommend the sunflower/surf´s up reissue. these albums (from their 70´s output) are not perfect, but in one package, it´s a great buy.

Nimrods, Pet Sounds is definitely their best album, and in my opinion, the best album of all time. You definitely have a gem there. The only other album that comes close to it the unreleased album, SMiLE. It was basicly a followup to Pet Sounds that Brian just burnt out on. There are a number of tracks that are recorded and available on several different bootlegs...try to get ahold of one, I'm sure you can find em on eBay. Other than that, get ahold of the double-reissue Today! / Summer Days (And Summer Nights). Those are two excellent albums that lead in to Pet Sounds rather well, where Brian's writing becomes more personal (and not as super-upbeat happy party). There surf tracks in there, but there are also a number of gems. I don't really like much of their post-SMiLE stuff. Oh, and there's a good chance BW will be touring again, I would think. Watch for summer dates. |

OK, SMiLE looks like exactly what I want. I looked it up on ebay and there are a whole bunch of them (very expensive too). One thing that has me confused is that the artwork on all of them is different. Is there an actual art to it or do people just make their own and if there is a real one, which one? Also, how much should I pay for it? If anyone would be so kind as to take the time to look it up on ebay and maybe post a link to one that looks good it would be much appreciated.
Pet Sounds is definitely one of the best albums ever, but I'd rank it second behind EVERY FB/Pixies album |

pet sounds is simply a must have! I think one of the greatest beach boys song is hang on to your ego. The first time I heard it was Frank's cover and I thought it was an amazing song. The Beach Boys are so much more than fun, fun, fun, |

gotta love that song "vegetables".. BW at his bizarre peak.
a guy i went to high school with is Mike Love's nephew.. i didn't know he had a reputation for being a dick.

there's a website you can go to and download SMiLE. it's called mike's SMiLE webpage or something. maybe not 'mike', but something like that.
what sucks, though, is that we'll never hear it as it was intended. just this pieced together version. rock and roll's greatest tragedy.
