I know that nobody has posted on this for a while but i am knew to this site so i am gonna give my two-penneth.
I simply have to agree with the two people who answered "the lyrics to Hey" 'cos it's the best love song ever written. I bet all those shit artists who write nothing but endless love songs are tearing there hair out (or turning in their graves) over the fact that they could never write something as beautiful as 'Hey'. And Frank is far from a soppy old ballad crazy fool. Basically he is magic at anything he truns his hands to.
Effortless genius !
The "Talking to preachy preach............." bit from Bone Machine is a very close second though. Who am i trying to kid, they are all amazing, i can't choose past 'Hey'

This is no Pixies song either, but listen to Dog Gone and the way he says "no Memphis". I love it.

Re: I'm Amazed
It's definitely "Arizona." Listening to the 1/18/87 radioshow, you can hear Arizona clear as day. |

'Every mornin' and everyday I'll bossanova with ya'
'Cookie, I think you're Tame!'
'With your feet in the air and your head on the ground, try this trick and spin it...'
And of course the already listed 'Subbacultcha' lyrics!

Right, my first post on this (newly discovered for me) forum. I've gotta agree with whoever said that it's the way he sings the lyrics that makes them fly. There's great lyrics throughout the pixies songs, but certain inflections stand out for me: When he says "If you go I will surely die" in Hey, it sounds like he will surely die. And the romantic inside me cries out in sympathy. He sounds like a sleazy sexmonger all the way through Subbacultcha. And in Mr Grieves there's an amazing bit, which has a lot to do with the drum roll, where it actually sounds like he's swinging from a rope when he says "But can you swing from a big rope?"
I think this is the beauty of the Pixies. It's kinda like onomatopaeia, in that the music/singing sounds like whatever the lyrics are describing.
"Out of Japan.... and into Japan" is one of his funnier lines. And he uses cool words like Pachenko and Pacheezy. In fact Calistan is a very funny song.
Oh and a misheard lyric: I used to think, in Mr Grieves, he said "You can cry, Kim-o", as if he was talking to Kim. I thought this was better. |
