First off, I am sad to say I did not get a chance to go to the Arizona show on Friday. I am completely bummed. My damn band had a show Friday night and I couldn't break the commitment. So when I heard Frank was doing an in store appearance before the show I was totally stoked because I was able to make that. Frank's voice sounded incredible. I can't believe how much better live he sounds now. I was right up front against the barrier. Frank was cracking jokes all night that it was really important for them to have a barrier for him. He was in a great mood. This is the set list from the in store that I can remember. Crackity Jones Holiday Song Nimrod's Son Mr. Grieves Beautiful Day Manitoba House of The New Pope (Never heard that one before) Whiskey In My Shoes California Bound (Aborted Twice) Cold Heart Of Stone
That is all I can remember. He played for about 25 minutes. During the show Frank stopped and was talking about concentration tricks, he plays on his dogs. Therefore, he picks me to do his concentration tricks on and starts laughing because I can't concentrate. I mean Frank Black is talking to me. I was in another world. Not to sound goofy but with it being such a small atmosphere Frank could totally tell that I was into his newer stuff and I think he really liked that fact. Everybody just seems to be into his Pixies stuff. It kinda bites. I did hear one dude yell out "Billy Radcliffe" so that was cool. Anyway, after doing the "dog trick" he say's "now that is a good music fan". It was really cool.
After the performance, we got to line up and get autographs. I was really nervous because I have heard stories of Frank before and they aren't all pleasant. So, when I get through the line I ask him if I can get a picture with him. I assume he remembers me from the front row "dog trick" guy he says "sure not a problem" and literally grabs me and goes cheek to cheek with me. I was totally shocked. We even got to take two pictures. I'll post them when I get them developed. After the pictures, he grabs my poster I have to sign it and I babble "I just wanted to thank you for your music being in my life. You have brought so much happiness to my life through your music." He seems really genuine and says "Wow. What a great thing to say." I shake his hand and walk away muttering the whole time I can't believe how cool he was.
He really was totally great. This is a memory I will always have. It turned out to be much better than just seeing him live again. It is great that he does these in stores for his fans.
Just sharing guys and thanks for listening. I figured you guys would be one of the few that understand where I am coming from. I will post those pictures as soon as I can.

Lucky Dan! That is so cool. It sucks that you had to miss the show, but I'm glad that you got to meet him. What a nice guy. I was nervous too when I approached him at the last Little Rock show, but he was really gracious and friendly. |

How cool for you! Wow. But dammit, why aren't people publicizing these in-stores? I woulda gone if I'd known! How did you hear about it? Grrr. Robyn Hitchcock evidently did an in-store too, which I also didn't hear about & therefore also missed. Ack.
What band are you in, anyway, Dan? |

I found out about the in Store from being on the street team. I went to all of the Zia locations to hang his posters up and they where really pushing the in store at all of there locations. I also saw an add in the New Times about it.
I am in a Hard Rock Band called The Furnace. Not at all like Frank. I am really diverse in what I listen to it. Thanks for asking.
