This one time I was at an Oklahoma truck stop dropping acid in the bathroom. All of sudden someone comes in. I couldn't see them cause I was in the stall, but I could hear the person. He was singing the words to Cactus. I opened the stall door and it was my dead grandmother. That is all I remember.

First off, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Excellent story about the truck stop. It reminds me of when I was young...oh wait, it reminds me of last week, when I stopped at a BP on the way to a friend's. This car was pulled over by the restroom and blasting Subacultcha I think it was, and I was kinda drunk, so I went over to the car to see who it was, praying it was some gorgeous girl that. like me, loved the Pixies more than mre laws (hence the driving drunk) but it wasn't. It was some old guy with a mullet. I was appauled, and even more so when the next song came on. It was Move, Bitch, by the ever-talented Ludacris. What an odd night!
I've heard a lot of noise, so I'm going to the stereo store, to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten. |

But it was cool beucase whoever the dj was said, "ok, we are going to play some Pixies for Dave in LA becuase he says that he is going to kill himself if he doesnt hear the Pixies as the year ends! Here it is Dave! The Pixies"! anyway, they played Is She Weird? 1 minute before 1994 ended! i thought that was odd, because kroq never played the Pixies.
Unfortunate that KROQ has come to this...see, back before KROQ became Top 40, they were probably how 90% of the people in LA at the time ever heard of the Pixies...They would always play Here Comes your Man and Gigantic...Bones Machine even! Granted, these are the "Cliched" songs, but why are they cliched? Because thats the only songs KROQ would play. And only KROQ played those songs (not just in LA, but for most of the country). Yes, this makes me bitter that someone would think that KROQ never played the Pixies, when in actuality, they were the ones to introduce them to most of us in-the-know hep-cats!
It's all about da ney no, my deybeh! |

turkey won. but it was pretty bad. tatu ran around the stage screaming( ok, singin out of tune) and at the end they kneeled down and the one that sings, well, sang to the other one. quite a let-down!

Watching ER in Australia last week. Carter is driving Sally Field to the airport. When they get in his car a very brief but unmistakable burst of Debaser blares out over the radio...

If you have not experienced Bill Nye the Scince Guy, you have not yet lived. Before there was David Lovering, there was Bill Nye. |

I'll second that - Mudhoney do rule.
I can't decide whether my favorite show of all time was seeing them or Frank. |

Oh, shit! You brought back fond, fond memories GHutt!
I saw Mudhoney twice in DC...once at the 930 club (a show that my friends and I were plastered on whisky for) that was fucking good. but the best was seeing them at the Black Cat (the old one, not the new one) in DC. it was small, great energy, great sound, and they went APE SHIT. I'll always remember them closing w/ "Hate the Police", and Mark Arm ditched his guitar and just screamed his blessed guts out. talk about a HIGH ENERGY Show....and they mixed up their set a great deal too, which is always awesome. Everything from the Superfuzz days to Tomorrow Hit Today (that had just come out, I believe)... Mudhoney are DEFINITELY one of my most memorable shows (the Black Cat one in particular). Have you heard the new album yet, GHutt? My friend got it and recommended it to me, its definitely on my list, I just haven't heard it yet.... |

I got the new album right after it came out, and it was pretty good. I like some of their earlier stuff more, but it is still worth picking up. I saw them by myself in a bar a week after I turned 18, and couldn't find anyone to go with me, so I had to hang out by myself for two hours before the show. This did mean that I could get right up front though without being hindered. Anyways, I was front and center for the whole show, directly in front of Mark Arm. When the people around me started moshing I had to hang on to Mark's monitor to keep my spot.
Closing with Hate the Police was definately one of the coolest things I ever saw. Mark didn't play guitar, just ran around screaming like a maniac. They played stuff from their whole career as well. It was awesome. My only complaint was that the show took place after Lukin left, and the new bassist (whose name I don't know) was kind of off sometimes. I think he forgot the bass line to Judgement, Rage, Retribution, and Thyme at one point... Anyways, it was a really unbelievable show.
It was cool too, because the band just hung out in the crowd while the warmup bands played. It's a weird feeling watching a show with Mark, Steve, and Dan just roaming around, chilling out. Mark walked right by me a couple of times, but I didn't work up the guts to say hi or anything. I learned from my experience though, and didn't pass up my opportunity to shake hands and shoot the shit with Frank before his show I went to. |

Hmm, i'm gonna have to check the new one out. i'm curious to hear their musical direction these days.
Sounds like the show you were at was much like the Black Cat one I went to. I was front and center too (I swear Mark Arm was practically sweating on me), and this was when the almighty Lukin was still kicking ass on bass. All the guys were chilling at the bar before the show as well, which was cool. But I didn't talk to em because I'm kind of a wussy when it comes to things like that.
Always good (and somewhat rare) to encounter another Mudhoney-lover....you are now in my cool book |

So your not 14!, since you have to look 28 to get a drink in America, respect due, but tell your friends never to think The Pixies or Mr Black are anything like Wham! .
