...and give me some suggestions.
get it here: http://www.mediablazedesign.com/sounds/chipofftheold.mp3
i used a program called 'acid' by sonic foundry to create this little meandering remix of what is essentially just the intro to 'chip away boy'. the program allows you to take little snippets of songs and loop them indefinitely - which is exactly what this remix seems to do. i think it's got a really nice meditative quality, but needs some direction.
anyone got any suggestions?

Big G,
I like it a lot! It does have some kind of wicked groove there.. The heavy drum beat is essential, and works perfectly with the piano. "Kudos to the Big Galoof".. There you go, I said it first. In terms of the direction, why not throw in the opening slide guitar a little more predominantly, and definitely fade the end. The quality isn't the best either, but I got a feeling that might of been your choice, and not the software's..
Nice tip on that acid program. I will check it out immediately!! Good shit bro, and keep sending the work over to the forum if you keep doing this stuff.

It is true. Acid 4.0 is wicked. Kudos x2 to the BigG.

I dig it so far. I think it could maybe use a little more work, it cuts off a bit too abruptly at the end.
I just picked up Acid 4.0 myself, and am anxious to get started with it. (I got approved for a guitar center credit card the day before yesterday and went a little crazy with it.. ah well, I don't have to have it paid up for 18 months! )
Have you done any other work you'd like to share? |

i should have explained better - it cuts off at the end because i'm not sure where i'd like it to go from there. i could just fade it out, or let each track fade one at a time - but i'm not sure. so i just let it end <smash!> abruptly like that.
i've done other stuff, but nothing recently. it all about having great stuff to loop. as far as quality goes, i think i had to bring the timescale way down on the drum track to get it to synch with the piano - so the software's doing a lot of interpolation on the fly. that might account for the low(ish) sound quality.

hehe..this almost has a moby feel to it! (I like moby, so it's a compliment from me.)
I don't listen to much dance or remixed stuff, so i dunno how you'd wanna end it..might be neat to fade out the tunes and leave the drums at full volume..? |

i'd say if you can get a sample of a (or a live) really distorted guitar doing really amelodic stuff on top it might be interesting

That is awesome! It does have a Moby like feel to it. That'd be cool to put Frank in there. Put an effect on his vocal and every now and then have him say "I'm a chip away boy" really slow and echoey maybe. Do you get what I'm saying? Fuck man, I'm getting Acid 4.0 now. YEAH!!! I would do a lot of fuckin FB remixes you know? The possibilites are endless. |

Mr. Galoof, I have Acid 2.0, do you know what changes or improvements have been made since the earlier version? Is it worth it to upgrade? I don't even use the loop function, I just use it as a digital 4 track (or however many tracks are needed.) |

Well, on the 4.0 box, this is what it says for new features, if that helps: Plug-in effects automation VSTi support ASIO driver support 5.1 surround mixing MIDI piano roll and event list editing MIDI step recording Alternate time signatures Loop Cloning Master, auxiliary, and effects bus tracks Yamaha OPT (open Plug-In Technology) support Autosave crash recovery Hotkey commands for track Muting and Soloing Windows Media Audio and Video Import
That's it for new stuff. Only a few of those things mean anything to me, and are useful to me. Maybe the other stuff will be more useful over time. |

Thanks for the info! I'll think I'll stick with 2.0, it seems to be doing what I need. Besides, Loop Cloning sounds scary. |

I had 2.0, too. After a while I got kinda bored with it, so I uninstalled. Threw away the box and misplaced the serial number for the disc. Now I can't play =(
I think one of the cooler things I did with it was mix Superchunk and the Marx Bros.
