found an interesting cover of do the manta ray today.... and it's an instrumental.... sounds pretty weird without any vocals.... it's done by a "band" called drake tunsgten, which is actually really Britt Daniel who's the main guy in spoon, which i'd say most people here would be aware of.
ya can kinda possibly hear a bit of the "do the" at the very beginning and there are little kid screaming noises very low in the mix in the first 40 seconds, but nothing after that.
can be got from http://oftherecord.org/tunes/dt06.mp3
it's quite good i have to admit. |

Yeah, the Astroman cover is pretty cool. Despite Mr. T's words in the Complete B-Sides liner, I'd have to say that Manta Ray is one of the best Pixies songs. |

i love manta ray! sorry to bring an old post to the top, i just love that song. i dont understand how chucky sed he didnt like it, but they recorded it for the bbc... i dont really like dancing the manta ray. franks a bit... over aggressive or something in it. or else i just dont like the song. 'since i've been told, month no.3, he has no memory of flyers in the night! ooh ooh ooh ooh yeah! hum,hum,hum...'

agreed. am i alone in saying that i like the version on the BBC sessions more than the B sides one?
There may be no 'I' in team, but there's a 'ME' if you look hard enough. |

The demo version on Give Me XTC is even better It fades for crying out loud!
I love Kim's part and the screams as well. The BBC screams aren't as satisfying as the B sides one. The Demo version is the best

I think the BBC version is the best one, it just seems to have the best energy and best production (in my opinion). Next would be the B-sides version, and lastly the Give me XTC version (it's a rockin version, but the sound quality just isn't up to par--also, i guess i'm not a big fan of fades at the end of songs). |
