thoughts please.
There may be no 'I' in team, but there's a 'ME' if you look hard enough. |

Pretty good film.... the guy who plays Donnie Darko is a lucky sod as he gets paid to do a nude scene with Jennifer Aniston in the film good girl.

I've yet to hear anything bad about this movie. Everyone who I saw it with thought it was the film of last year. Only problem I had was I still didn't quite get it even though I went to watch it twice. Apparently the DVD commentry sorts that out. |

In response to Swimmers post.... you get to see a couple of seconds flash of Anistons bazookas during a brief sex scene... not meaning to sound like a perve but that definately worth buying the DVD for!

I am a perv. I would rent it for that. Then again, I could probably just download it on Kazaa. |

Sorry guys, Donnie Darko is a good movie, but it's basically a "mind fuck" movie for 16 year old emo kids. I have a friend who works in a record store that sells dvds, and he says every died black hair-bargain t-shirt-messenger bag wearing, Rivers Cuomo glasses totin' bastard who comes in the store buys that DVD. I liked how it had Echo and the Bunnymen and Joy Division on the soundtrack though. |

Ah man, and any movie where the director has to "explain it" has to have some points taken away. What would happen if David Lynch explained Eraserhead or Stanley Kubrick explained 2001? Gross. |

i know what you mean itchload, by all the emo kids liking it. i just watched Being John Malkavich for the second time last night. I cant decide if i really like it or if i just like it becuase its "cool" and "wierd". I mean its defintily interesting and entertaining, but im not sure if its really a great movie or not

I mentioned this in the other post about movies. When I read through a scene by scene explanation of eraserhead I appreciated that movie so much more, so I guess it can work both ways.

I thought Donnie Darko was awesome. I'm not an emo kid. I especially enjoyed it when Donnie called Patrick Swayze's character the anti-christ. Beautiful.

Yeah I really enjoyed the film, I don't really know what emo is supposed to mean, however. I just know it as crappy music (for the most part). So what's emo?
Jonathan Richman is awesome. |

"Emotional" rock, I think?, fuck that shit, even though catagorising music is bullshit, that could be almost anything! I just got Jonathan Richman(or is it Richmond?!?) and the Modern Lovers lastnight, hav'nt been able to listen to it properly yet though.

Catogorizing music is bullshit? How are you supposed to talk about it. Frank Black's new CD has a real...musical sound? I can tell he's been influenced by previously recorded music-discs.
I hate the word emo too, but luckily it refers to an awful type of music, not just any song that's emotional. Fast paced pop punk with a whiny lead singer venting about getting his heart broken.
And Malax, since David Lynch refuses to explain his movies, the scene by scene explanation you read must have been written by a fan or critic, not the man himself. But I do agree with you that sometimes learning a little insight or listening to someone else's interpretation of a movie can really enlighten the experience. It's just the idea of the makers of the movie spelling the whole thing out on a commentary track that sort of disturbed me. |

no see the difference is, is if the movie doesnt make sense without help from the director, thats kinda lame. however a movie that can take on a new dimension or be more interesting by the directors comments, thats awesome then. Pi has a pretty good commentary soundtrack and watching the simpsons dvds in commentary is always entertaining too.

Save the last 20 minutes of the movie, I thought i had donnie all figured out ... just like i had BEAUTIFUL MIND all figured out - here's just some wacked up schizophrenic, so i figured ahhh really why's everyone so confused about the movie? and then the last few scenes bring in the idea of warped dimensions, black holes, all this shit and i just got blown away, landed up fairly confused, but it was entertaining after all and i don't need answers always, questions are stimulating and entertaining enough.. but, having said that, i would appreciate it if someone who's seen the dvd commentary would steer our thoughts in the direction the director would've liked them.
As a confusion comparision, MULHOLLAND DRIVE takes the cake. now that blew me away, yet i can tell it's a fantastic movie, an interviewer once asked lynch what it was all about, his answer was something along the lines of "it's up to you to see what you think it's about and what it means to you", which didn't overly please the interviewer - has the DVD got anything to contribute here? that's one movie i could go re-watch
