At the Philly show in Feb '01 (just Frank and Dave), before Llano Frank said they were going to record it with everyone in the audience singing along. So we all fell for it, sang along, clapped like mad after Dave's awesome solo, etc etc. Then the song ends and Frank says, with a huge smirk on his face "You know, I'm such a prick, we weren't really recording!" ARRRGGGHHH!! But you had to laugh along with him, it was pretty funny that we all fell for it. He promised someday he would do a 'sing-along' concert. That would be pretty cool, I mean it would be like karaoke WITH Frank! Sign me up!!

haha - that is HILARIOUS!
As for FB karaoke...if you have enough FB fans who play instruments together in one place....it would be easy enough. =)
We could get uber-cheesy and see if anyone here programs MIDI..hahahahaha
(I'll prolly get banned from the forum for that comment.. ;)

ha. this might be the funniest topic in the forum yet. the posts are hilarious.
usually professional karaoke singers (the hardcore one's with mullets and cowboy hats and a glass of beer - sorry about the stereotype!) are pretty sappy. it's like, "we don't want to see you sing the latest pop-hit from mariah carey or celine dion!" so it would be really odd to see someone sing a frank black song, yet cool. Somewhere in the USA, someday, there might be a good karaoke bar... we can dream.

i'm sure there is some way. actually my 8track (boss br-8) has this thing (which i don't use) for figuring out solos. you plug a CD player into the 8track, play a CD while recording it onto the 8track. then there is this thing called "center cancel" and it is supposed to get rid of the vocals to make it easier to figure out the solo. you can also slow the speed down without changing the pitch. i wasn't too impressed when i did try to use it. anyways, the point is, it does sorta eliminate the vocal track, but it wouldn't be sufficient for doing karaoke since it makes other instruments of a song kinda diminish as well. but my second point in this topic... i'm sure there is a program or device that could cancel out the vocals. I imagine a DJ or a "remixer of songs" would have something like this.
and what do i think of linkin park? and

well.. typically vocals are in the center of the mix becuase they are usually the most important. however bass and bassdrum and snare can often be found in the middle to. so the center cancel wouldnt work in a lot of cases. there isnt any really good way to get rid of vocals since its a really tricky thing. there are some programs that cut out typical vocal frequencies and such and it sorta works but it often sounds warbley. winamp has something that does it now that i think about it. but regardless its pretty hard, i think a lot of the remix people get ahold of original tapes since they have to get the ok to do it anyway.

A couple of things... - I started to write a MIDI of Parry the wind high, low. If I find it I'll post it, and if I feel inspired again maybe I'll do a whole song that we can sing along with.
- The easiest way to get rid of vocals is putting things out of phase. Basically, it cancels out the sounds that are mixed dead center, which is usually vocals, bass, and drums. Theres a couple ways to do this that you can look up online. It's really pretty interesting to listen to albums out of phase because you can hear lots of small parts quite clearly. I haven't tried it with the new albums, but it would probably cancel most things but guitar. |

it's good fun singing the lyrics to velvety while velvety instrumental version (complete B sides) is playing. that'd be home-party karaoke with minimal technology needed |

My Cd player has a karaoke function: push the button and the voice disapear! It works well with albums since Cult of Ray. I did it sometimes, plug the microphone and sing with the catholics and FB.
