hey, I don't know if this has ever come up, but did anyone notice that on Doolittle, tracks 5-7 match up with the lyrics of Monkey Gone to Heaven? Track 5: Here Comes Your Man (man is 5) Track 6: Dead (devil is 6, dead/devil) and Track 7: Monkey Gone to Heaven (God is seven). This may be a coincidence, but I think it may be deliberate. I've tried to see if any other songs fit a pattern, but come up with nothing else. Any ideas? Could there be a greater scheme to Doolittle? |

Its an interesting thought that hadnt occurred to me before. Id think it were intentional, apart from the weaker track 6 link, so perhaps just a coincidence. You must have a lot of time on your hands?

yes, too much time. and yeah, the track six connection may be kind of a stretch depending on whether or not you connect "dead" with "devil" (i'm sure lots of people don't), but i like to think it was intentional. |

Bathsheba, the seventh daughter; the wife of Uriah and later of David.
Uriah, in the Bible, was an officer in the Israelite army and the husband of Bathsheba. He was sent to die in battle so that David could marry his wife.
Could I be the only one that actually likes DEAD better than HCYM and MGTH? Lyrically it screams Pixies way more than the other two. Just my thoughts.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that the song order on doolittle is not the song order the band wanted. I think the songs were supposed to be listened to in the order the lyrics are placed in the booklet. I have wage memories of a greater scheme to doolittle, but not what.
By the way, I also think dead is superior to HCYM and MGTH. And Tame. And crackity jones. But then, Hey is superior to them all. |

I like the version of dead on at the BBC a lot more than the doolittle version. its a bit more straightforward and rocky to me. Also i think Is She Weird on At The BBC is a million times better than on bossanova. Anyone elses thoughts?

I like all of the versions on BBC better than the album versions, honestly. I hate the productions of Doolittle and Bossanova...way too pristine, clean, reverby...way too 80s. BBC is live and raw, and that's why I love it. It rocks way harder...There Goes My Gun just blows me away. I honestly don't like Monkey Gone To Heaven, regardless of the version...Here Comes Your Man is alright but definitely not my favorite...so yeah, out of the three, I'd pick Dead. But Crackity Jones and Tame rock ass, so I don't think I can put Dead in front of them.

The lyrics aren't in the booklets in track order for Bossanova or Trompe Le Monde, either. Were those also not in the order the band wanted, or did disorganized lyrics booklets just kind of become a Pixies trademark after Doolittle?
I think the weirdest thing about the Doolittle song order is that "No. 13 Baby" ISN'T Track 13.

I like the "god is seven" part on BBC much better than the Doolittle version, even though frank only sings it twice. I always thought the screams sounded a little far-reaching on Doolittle, but on BBC he really nails it.
And I love the production on Is She Weird, the Boss version. Occasionally on Bossanova, the drums sound kind of fake, but other than that I think the production is amazing, especially the surf guitar touches. |

word to the the surf guitar touches..
and word to not putting dead before Crackity and Tame. I love Dead, but Crackity and Tame? Thomas, it's time to lay off the alcohol..
back to surf guitar though.. don't you wish that Frank would do some more of that?
i would love to get an entire album in the vein of So Bay (the last part). dreamy surf stuff.
maybe throw in some weirder instruments again. get EDF to break out the thermin and maybe jefrey with one f could bring in his tablas and enter up the chase.
do you ever wish you could produce (or re-produce) one of your favorite artist's records?
