Announced via band's social media.
'Paz Lenchantin, who joined Pixies in 2014, has exited the band to concentrate on her own projects.
We're grateful for Paz's many contributions, and wish her all the very best going forward.
We are delighted to welcome Emma Richardson on bass. Emma will make her worldwide touring debut with Pixies on the first night of the "Bossanova x Trompe le Monde" European tour, beginning this Friday in Dublin.

Did Grand Duchy ever do anything with a saxophone? That line for whatever reason sounds like the musical side of their relationship, they tried it for awhile but ultimately that shit was blown. they ran out of time, they ran out of space, their line has been erased.
I like how the song ends super abruptly as well. Like an eraser has just swept through the song and left nothing in it's wake.

Can Thompson shed any light on what happened?
“Probably not, because I think that starts to get into people’s, you know… it’s a privacy issue,” he says. “But it became clear to us that we felt like she needed a break from our process, that something wasn’t right. And you know, I’m sure it did come as a surprise to her, but it was not a surprise to us.” He says “the rest of the band was in accord” it was either Pixies stop or proceed without her. “It wasn’t a callous moving forward.”

I don't know anything about how Paz is and what it's like to be around her or work with her, but this Beetlejuice thing is quite the stretch and a bit self-aggrandizing. It's strange. I know she's venting and expressing how she feels, but this claim that the band is deleting the truth, what is that all about? They're just chosing not to publicly talk about their dirty laundry. She feels tossed, sure, but something absolutely happened for the band to ax her. If it's the Ariel Pink stuff or something more than that, there was a reason. The big mean guys just didn't dump her for no reason.
I would almost like for Paz to spell out exactly what happened and why they canned her, in no uncertain terms, if she's saying the band is erasing the truth. If they are, then tell us all what happened exactly. How else is anyone outside of the band going to know the truth then? |

Yeh, I just watched the movie yesterday and I don’t know what the heck she is talking about. There is a Pixies poster, but the whole claim of the graffiti and the door, no clue. That’s all from the world of beetle juice. She kind of sounds like one of those conspiracy theorists, or just a grifter of sorts. Bizarre.
All that being said, funding the video herself does sound kind of screwed up, if true.
Edit: I mean, it sounds like she is coming from a place of hurt, so I don't want to minimize Paz's feelings. I'd like to see the various sides of the story, but at the same time, her claim of Beetlejuice copying her video is stretching quite a bit. |

About the Human Crime video though, I must admit it was definitely not the best contribution she made for the band. I found it very, very lame... like all videos that were produced after the overall very good batch from Indie Cindy.

Regardless of whether I agree with Pot or not it doesn't bother me when topics go awry into some off-road political trail. But I also get why it would irritate others. As long as free speech is maintained, I think it's fine to keep things more on-topic and put the politics in well, off-topic discussions.
Regarding the Pixies, I never cared for the cheerleading Team Pixie did regarding Pax; even the big deal about her co-writing or singing a lead or even singing Gigantic. Just rubbed me the wrong way but now in hindsight seems a bit disingenous even if the feelings expressed were true.
It seems like she was the "IT GIRL" and now because she, I don't even know what exactly, made some political posts on some guy's instagram I never heard of, she's whisked out the door!
For me, and I don't know if I'm in a minority on this site or not, but the Pixies are the original four. There's a hard line of demarcation between the albums I love to varying degrees and the post-reunion, post-Kim Deal band.
But beyond posting here about and taking a few minutes to do so, I don't really care. If people are happy seeing them play the latest tour(s) then I'm happy for 'em too. And whatever new music Frank makes, I'm still curious enough to check it out eventually.

There is an Off Topic section with a General Chat forum and political discussions unrelated to the band should happen over there. Perhaps the moderators could make a more formal announcement and begin enforcing that rule if people aren't staying on topic.
In the case of this thread, the deviation into politics is somewhat forgivable because Paz's departure was political in nature -- at the same time, once the door opens for political discussion it can get out of hand and pollute the thread, which has happened in this thread. Minor off-topic discussions do not sully a thread in the same way that off-topic posts about politics do. I think most of us would agree that politics is uniquely noxious.
Out of respect for everyone else who reads and posts on this forum we should all try to stay on topic. Those who wish to inhale and exhale noxious fumes should be free to do so in the General Chat forum. Times are crazy and tolerating such discussion is a kindness we should extend to one another - so long as that chatter is done in its proper place. |

Yes, I also think that music/fan forums are not the best place for discussing politics. Having said this,I however also feel that we have less and less chance to exchange views in places where it should be possible (forums of news outlets, real and virtual public spaces in general) - it is all so heavily censored (meaning not being published) if one humbly questions the propaganda for the status quo. So it is also somewhat natural that those discussions find other places. I have been around for some time, and I honestly think from my experience that censorship in the public discourse, be it self-censorship, directly ommanded censorship, or censorship by herd-mentality, has increased tremendously in our "free" world within the last 5 years or so.

Of course people are free to think what they want. I think the frustration is that this is a Pixies/Frank Black forum where for years now numerous threads in the music sections end up in long digressions and arguments on various deep-web/populist political narratives: the "new world order", anti-vax/COVID denialism, pro-Russian talking points, etc. I've certainly fanned the flames by arguing against these narratives, which I'm hopefully now done with. These are all highly charged issues that members can understandably have difficulty biting their tongue on when they inevitably re-appear every few threads (admittedly, I see how they are more relevant to this thread since Paz may have been fired for potentially sharing such politics).
(For what its worth, I do read non-Transatlantic aligned new outlets, the realists you mention, as well as leading thinkers of the European and Eurasian New Right (Dugin, Alain de Benoist, etc), but I do so very skeptically.) |

The US and UK and probably Israel was involved too because the Nord Stream was blown up to stop Russia selling gas to Europe - meanwhile Israel is drawing up gas contracts to be our new supplier and now what are we doing? Committing a holocaust against 2.2 million people in Gaza in the most sadistic and barbaric way because there is oil and gas there - can you honestly not see which side in this is by far the most belligerent?

You are simply stating well-established facts. NS attack by US might not be established yet, but it is obvious. Why would the german governemnt continue to decline to comment on its investigations by officially saying "the conclsuions could hurt one of our allys"? In short, I agree with everything you say except the O&G reasoning in Gaza. his is maybe one reason, but there are many more - settler & colonialism ideology to create Greater Israel, Netanahyu simply wants to stay in power, and some more.
I mean, the facts about all the events are still open, and anyone interested can do his/her own research. Only because reasonable people both in the West and East are censored in the mainstream media, it does not mean that the relentless propaganda we hear in the West is any jota more true.

Fully agree on the Bossa/Trompe tour. It is truly unbelievable. And ET sounds amazing on these performances.
As for the discussion on politics, I find it amusing that Paz' comments on Argentinian politics (which I have not read) are critisized in a superficial way by people who most likely would have problems finding Argentina on a map. And anyway, why should it be a problem if someone else has a different opionion, be it left/right/up/down/whatever? What has happened to people that we cannot value opinions anymore?

The first time I read the name 'Arctic Monkeys' I cringed, now those words are associated with the music and I have to stop and and actually think about it to remember what a supremely awful band name that is. I'm not sure if I've ever associated Pixies with actual pixies. The idea that they might need a band member to somehow represent a pixie is totally alien to me. The Rolling Stones however... I'm thankful that their faces have taken on the look of gnarled and weather-beaten rocks. |
