Posted - 09/09/2009 : 03:04:03 Okay, so the old 'Really not worth a topic' thread is a total mess, with lots of stuff that's really not worth posting AT ALL. So, I thought I'd start a new thread for little articles and things, but not cram it with every little thing that mentions Pixies! So anyway, came across this and hopefully this is an example of something possibly worth posting:
NYTimes.com - Living With Music: A Playlist by Joanna Smith Rakoff.
1) Is She Weird, Pixies. Nowadays, when people talk about the 1990s, the first band they mention is Nirvana, but for me — and most of my college-radio-station-DJ, record-store-regular friends — that era was all about the Pixies, with their irresistible, genre-busting sound: the slow, precise bass, the shifting tempo, the eerie hiss and scream of Black Francis. In 1990, when “Bossanova” came out, I listened to it endlessly — even though it wasn’t on the level of “Doolittle” or “Come on Pilgrim” — thrilled by this brief, odd song, a freaky gloss on Macbeth: “Is she weird? / Is she white? / Is she promised to the night? / And her head has no room.” I was 18 then, and felt very weird and very white. |

According to Josh Frank on twitter, he and BF are working on a screenplay...no other details shared. How postable this news is I'm not sure but there you go!
Have you seen anything more about the screenplay?
Not heard anything, looks like Josh Frank is pretty busy with his new book release - Giraffes on Horseback Salad - a graphic novel based on a screenplay written by Salvatore Dali in 1937 for the Marx brothers. Looks pretty interesting, will check it out.
As on observation, Charles appears to have stopped with social media recently, he seems pretty elusive these days. Especially with interviews, it's usually Joey or Dave doing them all now. |

Posted - 06/21/2018 : 10:17:46 Pixies are playing Ft Lauderdale this weekend, the solstice. I've been there, FL I mean. Three boring weeks drinking miller lite in bars with no atmosphere. It wasn't all bad though I Forrest Gumped a movie awards ceremony by accident and got to see Robert Wise getting a lifetime award. Might have been more fun if my family weren't such a bunch of huns. One of them might be at this selling home brew. |

Amazing article, thank you natenate101.
This: " Information about the Pixies was scarce in the early days, and plenty of people who’d heard their early songs (see: the deranged-falsetto-driven “Caribou”) were probably uncertain of the singers’ genders. As were some of the first people to see them live. “I think we all thought they were women,” Throwing Muses frontwoman Kristin Hersh recalls of her first time catching a Pixies show in Boston."
Apparently lots of us thought BF was a F.

Posted - 02/19/2018 : 23:53:54 Tin Machine live were massively self-indulgent but they were stunning gigs, I prefer their garagey Debaser to Bowie's solo take on Cactus. |

Posted - 02/19/2018 : 08:38:53 Tin Machine I and II are really good albums and have aged well. I thought they should have done more, a new Tin Machine album would have been better than his Earthling period. |

Posted - 02/18/2018 : 03:26:00 I remember Tin Machine. My mate at school was really in to them. I listened to the album (the first one anyway) when it came out, but it never left much of an impression with me. Must give them a relisten sometime, see how well they've aged. (for want of a better experession since Mr Bowie is of course no longer with us) |
