I mean the best band/artist that has started around 2000 (not 1900).
It must be a mix of critical and public success with your own taste.
Please don't choose "John Pudding & The Shrimps" on an indie label you've seen twice at the local pub.

For examples: The Strokes, The Libertines, Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Interpol, Radio 4, The Datsuns, Electric 6, The Coral, Eighty Matchbox B-Line Disaster, The Thrills, The Zutons, The Kills...

I would say the Strokes, they have good songs, ambition and I believe they can do better.
White Stripes are ok but it won't last.
The Libertines are my heart's fav, but I'm afraid they'll never gonna make it with all those stories

Count:
Strokes :7
New pornographers: 6
5O ft Wave: 2
White stripes: 3
Crooked Fingers: 2
The Shins: 2
The Kills: 1
Electric 6: 1
80's matchbox B-Line Disaster: 1
Libertines: 1
The Killers: 1
Unicorn:1
Decemberists: 1
Bettie Serveet: 1
Franz Ferdinand:1
Ben Kweller: 1
QOTSA: 1

Edit: KingPhilbert mailed 'cause I had forgotten TarTar's vote for Crooked Finger.

So you have no point of reference, Donny.

PixieSteve Posted - 10/06/2004 : 14:30:06
dunno, but some people have been bare pedantic about whether a band started in 90s or 00s. bullshit imo, because in the other thread there seemed to be a disctinction between rolling stones in the 60s and 70s.
massif snake Posted - 10/06/2004 : 14:25:44
why are they listed on the list then

PixieSteve Posted - 10/06/2004 : 14:19:08
white stripes = pre 00s
massif snake Posted - 10/06/2004 : 14:18:04

does that count as three votes?

I'll vote:

The New Pornographers
Cheeseman1000 Posted - 10/06/2004 : 12:55:41
Proper opinions, Mike.

I'm growing to enjoy articles that just slag popular people off though, its fun. I don't agree with them necessarily, especially not with another on there, an iconoclastic-type deal criticising Joy Division among otheres, but its all fun to read. I like opinions i guess.

A lot of the time yes. Part of the reason I dislike it more and more each day.

isn't that *all* the NME does Mike?

The Monkey Helper has arrived http://www.monkeyhelper.co.uk (that is my band)
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 10/06/2004 : 09:27:49
I stopped reading after a couple of bands down. He is basing his opinions partly on looks, and as soon as a music critic does that, he loses all respect. Awful!

Help me! He keeps making me post!

If we're allowed QOTSA, go with that. If not, I'll plump for the Franz.

Didn't QOTSA put out an album in 1998? I'd like to replace QOTSA with Earlimart who better fits the criteria.

How the Strokes have 7 votes is beyond me.

I vote for the Shins

I vote for Franz Ferdinand. Although I skipped all the pages of this and just voted so I am not sure if there is something I am missing...
