dont you think U2s 'Beautiful Day' rips this song off a little..the bit where Bono yells..."touh me, take me to the blah blah blah....release me....the sun always shines on Tv"?

there influence will always be around.

It's pretty simple. In my opinion they sucked and it's no loss that Americans largely ignored them. There was much better music in the 80s than Aha (ie REM, Replacements, Husker Du, Minutemen, ect.).

darwin Posted - 09/22/2004 : 11:46:10
And I'm saying it's good that they were ignored.
The Champ Posted - 09/22/2004 : 11:36:18
Hey Kathryn, ive been buisy with school and life in general, c uve been posting alot :)

Darwin, A-ha is not a one hit wonder. Its just that Take on me was such a mega hit that they couldnt ever acheive the same fortunes. My point is that America enjoys mega hits and ignores anything which isnt on MTV constantly. And im talking about Pop culture, not the people who actually search for good music.

Its funny cause A-ha, after the shoke wave of TAke on me was over, a-ha was ignored in north america for the most part, kinda like the pixies, and i think the only reason they had so much success was because of that great music video, and to this day not much has changed, its seems that music videos are more important then the music itself in the USA, Europe i think is different, because A-ha tours in Europe and has success, where as in north america u woudlnt c the same responce at all. Damn MTV

Score one point for America for ignoring A-ha. We have plenty of one hit wonders still roaming around the US. In LA it seems like you can see Flock of Seagulls or Missing Persons any weekend.

talking about covers done with our respective bands, mine used to play -long time ago- Can I run (L7), Pretend we're dead (L7) Kill your TV (Ned's Atomic Dustbin), Pop (Sloy), Today (Smashing Pumpkins), Barbarism begins at home (The Smiths), Too Many Puppies (Primus), some Nirvana songs, The Sad Punk, Distance equals..., Monkey Gone To Heaven, Bone Machine, The Happening, Debaser, Adda Lee and Blown Away.

...nostalgia

Yodeling, shrieking Swedes (or Scandanavian) with a video in which the singer falls for a drawing that's being chased by guys on motorcycles. You've probably blocked it out to protect your sanity.

Do you remember George Micheal prancing around in neon short shorts while with Wham? There's pure 80s pop bliss.

Aaah haaa... Now I remember.

GD you Monsieur. Since yesterday I haven't been able to get this song out of my head and what's worse, the only lyrics I really know are, "take on me," "take me on" and "lalalalaEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE," which I don't even think is a real lyric. It's like a haunted broken-record in my head.

This was a break through video at the time. Plus I had a little crush on the lead singer.

Vilainde I haven't heard your band so I don't know if it fits, but I could see a punk rock version of the song as cool but different.

We used to do "Don't Change"...which I heard wasn't even an INXS tune...but no matter. Great song and FUN to play - even without keyboards.

'The Sun Always Shines On T.V' is twice as good as 'Take Me On'.

Oh and Broken Face? I think you'll find that '99 Red Balloons' was the best pop song of the 80's.

Yes, the video for Take On Me is pretty cool. Has anyone seen the Ken Russell flick Altered States? I've always felt the end of the
A-Ha video owes it's idea to the end of Russell's film. Also, I think the best song of that album (Hunting High and Low) is The Sun Always Shines On TV. Really, really dramatic and cheesey! Ah, my youth!

my wife went and saw them like 2 years ago in London. she said it was an absolutely fabulous concert with middle aged women dancing in the aisles.
she bought this great t-shirt as well, which everyone laughs at, but secretly wishes they owned.
