Posted - 09/16/2004 : 08:53:47 Ticketmaster bites... I just paid $12 in conveneince charges for my Camper Van tickets. The tickets were only $12 each. That's a 50% service charge!
How can they stay in business and not get busted for being a monopoly? |

Posted - 09/16/2004 : 11:11:55 A lot of times here if you want to buy tickets for a local show before the date you have to get them through TM. The venues' box offices don't sell tix til the day of, so we end up paying the piper to make sure we'll get in. |

Posted - 09/16/2004 : 10:39:34 yeah bumblebee boy, thanks for the advise. Next time I will see if the venue is selling the tickets directly. I think the reason way it was 50% is that the tickets were only 12 bucks. I can't remember how much TM charged for the Pixies tickets--I think it was in the 4-8 dollar range per ticket. Guess TM just charges a standard amt. per ticket regardless of the ticket price.
Benji... I selected the free postage option... that tickets come in the a standard envelope so there was no extra charge. They must build this "free option" into the service charge though :).
I just can't believe Ticketmaster.

Posted - 09/16/2004 : 09:16:07 ticketweb are generally worse for service charges than ticketmaster, they're both the same company now i think, as in you get put threw to the same call centre, but they have 2 different systems (with different charges to boot)... i've never seen a 50% service charge (or anything anywhere near that close) though and i worked at TM for a good few months.

Posted - 09/16/2004 : 09:11:16 when i worked at TM there were always alternatives, different vendors or you could just go to the venue in question or the official web site for the event (or whatever) and buy them from there... not sure if it's any different over in the states. but here it was a case of 'we charge for our service, if you don't like it you're more than welcome to find an alternative vendor to sell you your tickets"

Posted - 09/16/2004 : 09:09:02 Pearl Jam tried to stop them. Not enough people got behind them to make it count. We have to face it; unless many, many big artists (and millions of customers) stand up to (and possibly martyr thmeselves in the process) TM, they will continue to dominate ticket sales. Kinda like Clear Channel. I don't think bulk of the populus really give a damn. They like the Wal-Mart way of doing things and they will only feel pain in the wallet. Someday...
