Thank you for this. It's always fun to learn new ways of saying 'get drunk.' I just wish I had read it on Friday instead of Sunday. Now I'll have to wait at least two or three days to use my new phrase. |

Posted - 08/29/2004 : 04:35:21 Hey!
It has been said that drinking breeds antisocial behaviour, but the "antisocial" little fucks started drinking at 12 anyway so the legal limit has littl in the way of application. Going to Uni is as much about growing up and growing independant as it is about the course, I think that not beeing able to drink and being monitered at every stage is keeping you in a child like state. I went to uni in Bangor, North Wales, there wasn't much to do if you didn't dig mountain climbing but get ratted, I had some great times, went to great gigs and had the best year of my life so far spent semi pissed. Hurrah for alcohol, an integral part of the university system And making drinking legal for the final college year in the US? isn't that the most important year? In our first year here we et most of the alcoholism done and dusted and in theory settle down for the third year study
the room smelled like cupids gym

This isn't directed at you VoVat and I'm totally going off topic here, but here I go. I think if you can vote, then you should be able to drink. I dont think it's a matter of age, I think it's a matter of social and cultural attitudes and responsibilities towards the consumption and recreational use of alcohol. Ireland has a big problem with underage drinking, so putting the age limit up any higher wouldn't really do much good, even 12 yr olds seem to be able to get their hands on alcho-pops somehow!(tighting up avalibility would). In the last couple of years we've also had a problem with young people bing drinking and alcohol related suicides among young people. The social attitude in Ireland amongst young people is to drink as much as you can on a weekend , and by the looks of it, all week, show everyone you can drink more then them, if you don't like someones face or they look at your girlfriend, get in a fight to prove your a man, and these people are going on 30 yrs old!!.
My first post was supposed to be light hearted, living up to the Irish stereotype, but in the seven years that I've been freqeunting bars in Dublin, I've never seen a fight. But I think peoples attitude towards alcohol has changed for the worst over the last couple of years, you would not have seen the behaviour you see today ten or twenty years ago. I had my first drink when I was 14 . I wouldn't say I drink senseably, but I am responsible for my actions and behaviour, I treat people the way I would like to be treated, that means no verbal or physical abuse or behaviour that would detract from other people enjoying themselves. When that moral responsibility goes out the window, then alcohol is a dangerous substance. If your 18 and at college(even if your not), you have the ownus on youself of taking responsibilty for your (education), and life, and the same should go for your achohol consumption and your social behaviour. I think high alcohol consumption is a symtom of personal and or social problems(theres no stigma attached to being pissed out of your brains at 3 on a Friday night in Dublin). 21 would be a good age to start drinking at, but the government makes you a legal adult at age of 18 here, and most people have had a drink in Ireland by at least 16, as something of a coming of age process. There are lots of other issues here like advertising, opening hours and peer pressure that I won't go into. My point being, although age is a factor, it's only one of many which are more pressing in this issue. Is this a patronising rant? Anyways I found it weird that I would be only legally be able to drink in America the year before I finished college, which is some of the best times I've had in my life.

Posted - 08/26/2004 : 20:00:10 What are RA's anyone? As soon as I hit college I started the booze, people used to go to the pub at lunch and not come back, we even used to go to the pub with our tutors and visiting lecturers! What a bummer to have to wait 3 years till you can legally drink even though you've started your third degree education! A classmate of mine and his flatmates used to drink so much that they made a city out of used beer cans for a shitty project we had(I went to NCAD), and named it Canses City of course.

I never lived in dorms, but that is where we would *go* to drink. Someone usually had smuggled in a case of booze somehow...I was walking past an RA with a friend who was carrying two bottles of vodka in his trenchcoat, toward the front. RA: "Whatcha got in the coat?" My friend: "My cock! Wanna see it?" RA: "Erm, uh..." My friend: "Too bad 'cause I'm shy."
We, and several other friends, proceeded to get stupid on liquor in the dorm. This was a typical evening. I guess every school I visited had a whole lot of stupid students. Or you were a nardo. :)

Q: I had sex with my ex-girlfriend when she was 15 years old and I was 21. She turned 16 in June. I am still 21 years old. She initiated sex and I said yes so it's not rape. We broke up and haven't seen each other for half a year already. Since this happened already and nothing can be done about it, is there some time period where if she wanted to, file charges against me for statutory rape?
A: Charges can be brought against you for indecency with a child anytime up to 10 years after she turns 18.
He's going to be shitting it for a while! I hope it was a neat break up!

Stanford and U of Chicago might dispute the Ivy League being the best in the nation (certainly they are among the best). And some public schools as well (U of Michigan, Cal - Berkeley |

Cause I went to university here in France and (unfortunately) we never ever had a Dressed To Get Screwed party. Can you tell me more about how you party?

Yep, actually I am quite proud of that also, I hate those "I like this school cause of some sport/team" types. Fuck the sports! When did schools ever become important because of their sports? I thought it was about education not about cheering for some dudes on a playing field. Maybe I should play football so that I can be one of the "important" "students" of Texas A&M University...
