Posted - 07/19/2004 : 17:48:00 This is a pretty liberal forum for the most part, so it's hard for me to imagine anyone here opposed to this, but hey, I'm often wrong. What are your thoughts on gay marriage, and laws/constitutional amendments to ban said marriages?
I personally think it's bullshit. Once again, it's a law which is attempting to tell people how to lead their lives, and I think such a law is total shit. I think the arguments against gay marriage have more holes in them than an inner-city gynocologist (har har). It's either about A) keeping tradition, or B) "think of the children." The biggest hole to the latter argument about a child growing up in a same-sex environment is "where's the mother/father?" Shit, you can say the same thing about all the single parents out there raising children. And not to bring traumatic experiences or exploit others, but how many documented cases have there been of step-fathers/mothers or mom/dad's girlfriends/boysfriends molesting their children? Are there any documented cases of same-sex couples molesting children? Think about it...
[Note: this thread was inspired by a debate I watched on PCN...local access...was flipping through channels and it's an issue which I'm interested in hearing about, because I personally believe we'll be seeing gay marriage being legal within the next several years...unless Boy George (W) gets his way]
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

To be fair, if I had to raise two-fifths of a child, I'd be pretty messed up too.

At least the preacher bought him a soda first.
On a more serious note, I have to agree with this:

The twisted warped mind of Glacial strikes again. You really dug deep into your subconscious to come up with that statement eh?, maybe you should write a book. |

When getting into an heated arguement it is important to be both gramattically correct and to spell things well. everyone knows dichodomy has an "aitch" in it. also, ...many kids would be lucky to have either parent or any parents. and, why did you precede argument with "logically" it should just be "logical", is that logical?

Shiney, Thank you for all of your advice and thank you for teaching me a new word, gramattically. I bet you have to be careful to not include it in letters to your grandma.
ah, touche! grandma would not like that. btw, original post was all sarcastic, no personal attack intended (not unlike the speeling and gramar errars).

I was bought up in a very homosexual world. My mum is gay, and she and her long term partner bought me up for the majority of my life.
In relation to all of my friends lifes, mine was much more settled, much more open, hardly any arguements, I had and have a much better idea of the world, and was obviously much more open minded. I have a much higher social awareness than any of my friends. I generally had a much happier and healthier childhood. I had a childhood where no conversation was uncomfortable to talk about, nothing was a taboo, and i discussed everything with my mothers.

Posted - 07/25/2004 : 12:30:30 Studies have shown "conclusively" that Bush won in Florida, just as studies have shown "conclusively" that Gore won. If you make a claim either way, you're just quoting statistics to make your point, ignoring opposing statistics that are just as readily available.
With that said, I think that the best way to decide if things worked out as they should have is to look at the reaction from the people of Florida in the next major election.
The way I see it, if the people of Florida truly felt cheated, they wouldn't have voted to re-elect Governor Jeb Bush in 2002 by a 13% margin...or voted for Katherine Harris' successor as Attorney General by the same margin they elected Harris in the previous election...or voted to put Katherine Harris in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Posted - 07/25/2004 : 12:00:10 It hasn't been conclusively proven either way, as far as I know. Regardless of who would have won, though, I think we can all agree that the whole thing was a suspicious mess.

We all remember the election of 2000. Because of faulty and mismanaged election systems, George W. Bush won Florida's electoral votes and the presidency. And now look at the mess we're in.
That hasn't been proven, right? In fact i thought studies have shown that bush would have won anyway. |

Posted - 07/24/2004 : 21:56:42 Yeah, well "sincerely" shouldn't have a period after it, it should have a comma. And there should be a semi-colon after "idiot" and "thanks" should be its own sentence. So there. |
