OK, it seems there are a lot of creative people here, whether they get to do it as much as they would like right now or not. This is a sort of old-style salón where we can check out everyone's endeavors and exchange ideas and maybe even freely expand on thoughts.
So whatever creative thing or idea you would like to share, please give a link or write it or paste it here. Sciences, art, music, mathematics, philosophy, music reviews, poetry, prose, art, etc. ...as long as there's an idea of your own that is shared, it's all relevant.
I figure we can just be spontaneous and kind of wing it and maybe it'll provide some cool opportunities for discussion, at the very least we can find out more about each other's interests in the process. |

I was rooting around on my hard drive and found some songs that I'd written a few years ago, and I was reminded why I gave up trying.
Feel free to laugh at this, I've cheered up considerably since.
Trains run on parallel lines
Run closer for a while almost touching
Then part and fan away
Out of sight for some time
Only to reappear moments later
Then disappear for good later down the line.
Life moves in parallel to the trains
She moves closer for some time
But the parting is such confusion
One fleeting reappearance,
Is all of a few seconds,
Then like the train, she’s gone for good
What cliché can be used
For a situation like this, ‘what she does to me?’
It seems so inadequate
Yet so accurate at the same time
If I saw her now, it would probably
Throw my whole life out of focus.
I just have to mention one of the lines in one of my others:
"Godfather to nothing, ancestor of none, black glasses and feedback took my sense of fun"
I must've been going through a JAMC phase, I'm not sure that line was intentionally funny, but I find it hilarious now.

this is a poem that i wrote when i was about 16.
for some reason i can still remember it off by heart 9 years later.
it is bad, but i wanted to join in, and i like it for some reason....
i'm going to attempt to find a poem by my lil sister who writes very very well.
I like the taste
Of the blood
On my arm
In my mouth
Spread on buttered toast
Sprinkled with cinnamon
Such a delight
Such pleasure
The blood stops
I more depressed

Let's say that I WANT to believe that our world is a non-euclidian space. It would be so cool, just imagine, going straight and returning to your point of departue. For those unfamiliar with non-euclidian spaces, let's just mention that Euclide made some assumptions when building his geometrical system and one of them has never been proven : the fact that two parallel lines never cross each other. I know it goes against common sense, but nobody has ever proven this fact. So some mathematicians built the so-called non-euclidian spaces - denying that two parallel lines never meet. Basically it means that if you continuously go straight through spaces, you will come back to your point of departure. |

I love your songs, Crouton (but you knew that  ), and the Joy Division cover is great too.
It's very good to see other art on here. Are people not posting pictures because of logisitcs problems? I can try to collect info on free hosting sites if so (Carl, I think you mentioned you didn't have a way of posting images yet).
hehehe nice, Monsieur. Will you not answer my answer/return question from page one when you come back from your day of toil? I *have* to know if you believe we live in a non-euclidian world.... Looking forward to puppies and flowers. Oh, and I posted an abstract image and wrote a story, I hope that thread keeps going, cause it's a great idea. |

I was actually talking to HPM...as he lives in the same town...could be quite difficult to be in a band with some one who live in a different country (before you start naming bands that have done it, yeahyeah i know, The Kills etc, but they have money).

Tre, (or HPM), any idea what that show is titled? I'd be interested in seeing examples of the work online if you have the artist's name or anything to go by. It sounds like a great topic. Reminds me of the amazing and beautiful shots from bird's eye view in "Winged Migration". |

It is in birmingham, round paradise forum and the flouzy in the jaccuzzi, I saw it yesterday at 6.30 in the morning, it's stunningly impressive, but it's laid out wrong in birmingham which is unfortunate.

Im always dubious about sharing the stuff I do. I dont really draw verymuch anymore, I used to alot, but most of my drawings I wouldnt show anyone.
I have three or four books full of poetry and things like that...again most of it is a little too personal to share with any one.
I have hundreds of band reviews, essays, stories and scripts though. maybe when i get time I can put them on here.
Great stuff from everyone so far!

Has anyone seen that exhibition of photographs taken of nature from a birds-eye view? I saw it in Warsaw, it was recently outside London's Natural History museum and now it is in Birmingham (according to Tre).
It's fantastic stuff, I suppose you can't go wrong with shots of nature, but these are especially wonderful. Be sure to check them out if they are ever in a town/city near you. I forget the name of the photographer I'm afraid.

Overall, fb.net message board is getting my vote for favorite board right now. Lots of interesting characters around and what seems to be some good folks. Which is nice. And somewhat refreshing.

offerw, thank you very much (for the kind kind words, and the inspiration)! That artist's work is very inspiring, escpecially the fact that he is a contemporary. As far as having a creative bone in your body, I need to probably clarify that this thread was meant for people to be able to not only share tangible creative endeavors, but also what kinds of things we have been thinking or dreaming about, what random revelations have you had that you would like to tell others about?
Have you been trying to come up with an invention, or been curious about the way something works? In "Coffee and Cigarettes" Jack and Meg White are sitting in a coffee shop. Jack has brought along, in a red wagon, a Tesla coil that he built. It leads to discussing Tesla's theory that the Earth is a giant conductor of acoustic energies. That's something to wax philosophical on. Basically, I'm wanting to encourage the kind of wandering, wondering, conversation that results from too many cups of coffee late at night with good friends in a coffee house. |

I actually was gonna say Deal at first but then I realised I don't need a bass player 'cos my mate plays the bass. We have had a few practice sessions, but can't really develop on what I have produced so far. We really need another guitar player, one who has played for longer than I and is therefore better than I.
I guess a Deal crossed with a McCartney would be perfect 'cos I would like it to be a female guitar player who can provide vocals too. I love the way male and female vocals work together. A big reason why I love the Pixies I guess.
The only problem with this of course is that I am a bit wary of advertising for a guitar player whilst I am so goddam average on the guitar. I would feel embarrassed when they come for their first rehersal. They'd be like "What the hell have I gotten myself into here?"
Good ideas are not enough.

I'm writing a book, but I intend on copywriting before I share it so... but I am going to switch people's names around... so Ramona will be Floop, and Apl4eris will be Merebu etc.
It's going to be good. And not a traditional novel by any means.
I am very excited, and when I get the 1st rough draft of the script in the mail I'll post a link.
Hopefully all of this will coincide with the grand opening of my homepage... hopefully due sometime this year

I noticed you put music reviews, and that's the only creative thing I do anymore...
This is my review of M83's last album, which (fairly obviously from my review) was my favourite of last year. I think this may be a little pretentious, but it defeats the object of a music review if no-ones going to read it. This one didn't end up getting published, so I might as well put it up here.

Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts
There are certain records that are best appreciated played loud staring into a brooding late summer twilight, letting oneself be enveloped in the vastness of the sound and sky. If that sounds a tad pretentious, consider Suede’s ‘Still Life’; The Cure’s Disintegration; or most pertinently My Bloody Valentine’s epic Loveless. The all-encompassing grandeur and scope of the sound wraps the listener in a swirling wall of sound and leaves him with a sense of having experienced the music rather than just heard it. The new release from French duo M83 can be added to that illustrious company: this is a truly breath-taking listen.
The field of electronic/rock crossover is perilous and fraught: many have attempted it but the number of successful examples is very limited. M83 aim for combining avant-garde electronica with MBV-esque slabs of pure noise, and succeed in creating what is, to these ears, the first truly great effort in the genre. Supplementing a Loveless-style arsenal of feedback, dischord and guitar noise with an innovative, creative approach to electronic technology, M83 create true soundscapes: hypnotic, whirling, grainy analogue synthesisers compete for space with hugely distorted banks of guitars, all the while complementing rather than interfering with another.
‘On A White Lake, Near A Green Mountain’ is the perfect symbiosis, a coming together of disparate elements into a cohesive whole, transforming a rippling stream into white noise before injecting a mass of synths and an ambient beat to forge an eerie yet fulfilling morass of atmospheric howls, only to fade out in a hail of blistering, howling guitar wails. The following track is titled ‘Noise’, and could be a watchword for the entire album. The melodic synthesis of ‘Be Wild’ is punctuated by unnatural electronic skitters bringing to mind the nerve-shredding tension you felt watching ‘Alien’ for the first time.
‘In Church’ introduces an apocalyptic, sepulchral sumptuousness straight out of Final Fantasy, but the beautiful collision of ecclesiastical and electronic only tells half the story of this record: witness the awesome ‘0078h’ to hear M83 ‘rocking out’. As a drilling guitar line pierces your eardrums, a cut-up, ethereal female vocal melody leaves you disorientated and breathless.
This record cannot be recommended highly enough. M83 are the first band to create a credible electronic rock album that lives up to its promise, and in creating this epic have set out a template that others will imitate for years to come. So far ahead of its time that it leaves the zeitgeist trailing in its dust and stretching to catch up, this monumental release will leave you terrified, exhausted and hypnotised, but ultimately aching for more. Lie on your back and stare at the stars while you listen to this record and you find yourself believing once more in the power of music to inspire and uplift.

I look forward to going home so I can dedicate some time to really lookign at the stuff here. Looking at/listening to/reading art at work doesn't really give it a fair shake, so...

Why thank you very kindly, mislead - I very much enjoy your photography too. I'm sorry if I spoiled the mystery for you (I can edit my post to remove the info if you like).
The lighthouse is the (I think) tallest all-brick lighthouse in the nation, Cape Hatteras lighthouse, in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. They actually had to move it down the bank, because erosion, and the resulting watery sand, was causing it to flood and sink.

My lyrics tend to be on the side of abstract...it may start out with a subject, and then deviate to settle into some sort of mental pattern. In the following song lyrics, the first half was written when I was 17, and the second half was written when I was 27.

For the people that write lyrics, can you explain how you happened to write them? Did you have music first? Did you start with a feeling, a topic on your mind, or just play with free association? |
