I don't buy for a second that Martin didn't know anything about it, but if he somehow DIDN'T know about it, then I question his competence. You know, since he was finance minister at the time.

Posted - 06/02/2004 : 15:34:52 I'm OK with refurbishing the military as far as better/safer equipment go (because it seems that we will never live in an age without military, though I'd love to be the first country to disarm completely and wilfully), but I suppose the concern is that if they're spending that kind of money on military, what does that say about their position on the war and the general might = right philosophy so dominant in world culture? It makes me skeptical, that's for sure.

Posted - 06/02/2004 : 12:47:55 Its a billion dollars most likely because of how much the Liberals cut from the defence budget i believe and the effects that those cuts have had over the years. One billion is the rough number some experts have said what would be required to get our military back up to snuff, or something like that. |

Absolutely nothing wrong with giving the military money, but a billion dollars? I thought we sold our seaking's anyways, that should be enough.
I'm not voting Liberal or Conservative.

Posted - 06/02/2004 : 00:20:48 i'll have to side with the ndp this go. they really got my attention with their platform on taxation of the rich and generating revenue from uncollected income tax. the environment and health reform also being sellers for me.
trusting anyone is hard because they all sound the same when printing presses are pumping out ballots, but a pro military conservative government and a corrupt liberal one dont sit well on my nachos. |

Posted - 05/31/2004 : 12:43:25 For those curious about the right wing side of things:
Progressive Conservative -> Beleagured PC -> Progressive Canadian party Reform -> Canadian Alliance -> Progressive Canadian
We do need a change in this country, but change to what. I haven't looked at the green party seriously because they seem like a one-issue party to me (though I do intend to check out their platform), and nobody takes any of the other 'christian/communist/marijuana/guiness/etc' parties seriously. As far as I'm concerned, it's still about the big three: liberal, PC, NDP. The rest is just lobbyists.
And here in Saskatchewan, I've had my fill of NDP too, so I suppose I'm torn between liberal and PC. :)
Matt, those sound like bosses from hell. Those would all be grounds for me leaving current employment, but I'm stubborn that way. But I still don't like unions and what they inevitably become...

I'd vote for them. Seriously, does anyone else notice how labour is moving back to the way it was 100+ years ago? In Ontario we had a 60 hour work allowed by the Conservatives. You could get fired if you refused to work 60 hours in a week. It was changed slightly by the Liberals but not back to the way it was. Every company I've worked for doesn't give a shit about their employees. The company I'm at now is gettign ridiculous. Last summer I was playing football and caught a pass wrong and tore some of the tendons in my hand. I didn't realize I did that at the time and went to work the next day even though my hand hurt like hell. It kept getting worse and by the end of the day my hand was throbbing in pain and swelled up to like 3 times it's size. I had something due the next day and I told my boss I have to go because it's killing me. He reponded by saying why don't you just use your other hand instead? My jaw almost dropped to the ground. I'm telling the asshole I'm in severe pain and he's basically saying just walk it off. I went to the doctor the next day and he told me not to go to work for 5 days to let it heal and that I shouldn't use it at all. He gave me Tylenol 4's for fuck's sake. When I called one of my other bosses to tell him he said he started arguing with me that he didn't understand how my hand could be hurt that much by a football and demanded I go back to the Doctor and get a note. Now, I don't take sick days often. I'm not one of those people who call in sick every second Friday. In fact the last time before the incident with my hand was like 7 months before. So why should assholes like this question me and doubt me when I'm saying I'm not well enough to work. I have a million other stories from previous jobs too and from friends/co-workers, I should write a book.

Posted - 05/31/2004 : 10:59:08 Arrgh..we definitely don't need another term with the Liberals in power..
I'd like to vote for the Greens, but until we get proportional representation, it's very close to being a wasted vote...
Their presence in Victoria is currently pretty strong, so there's a decent chance here..
Vote anything but Liberal i say..or PC or whatever they're calling themselves. Who are the Alliance party hiding with now..? Cursed Nazi's..

Posted - 05/31/2004 : 06:58:58 For those of you who are undecided. Go to the party websites and see what each party is about. Don't only consider the 3 major parties, look at everyone and then make up your mind. I'm biased because I'm supporting them but take a good look at the Green Party platform. They're not what you think they are and have very sound ideas how to improve the country and most importantly the quality of life for Canadians. Their support has also been growing in the past few years and in a few more will have the level of support they have in Europe. In this election the have a candidate in every riding in Canada making them elgible for national debates, this will hopefully introduce more people to them. But I'm regressing, seriously take a look at everyone:
