I have recently developed an addiction to New Order. I have to say, for being an 80s pop band, their songs just transcend that formula so much and are just so well-crafted. I suppose part of this comes from the fact that they were once Joy Division, a band with a much more left-of-center approach to music. And I like Joy Division, but I have to say, I get more of a kick out of New Order. My favorites right now are Nothing To Me (I think it's actually titled Let's Go), True Faith, 1963, World In Motion, and Blue Monday. I like Bizarre Love Triangle, but I've heard it so many times, and actually kind of prefer the Frente! cover.

Hansel and Gretel have formed a band, .....And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Breadcrumbs!!!

I bought every Duran Duran album when I was a kid. They have about five good pop songs and I've heard they're very fashionable nowadays. When I put the records on though I am just amazed at how much crap they made. They are shite.

i don't have any actually albums, just a 'best of' - which is very cool.

Has Oasis put out anything recently?

I think I've only heard of two albums. Is that all there is?

Yes. I agree, I was pissed off when I bought the cd and it was just this crap Radiohead rip-off.

Anyone on here likes I Am Kloot? Unfortunately Oasis mentioned what a great band they are but really they have a few excellent songs.

New Order = fantastic. Spent my early teens trying to get nice Factory Benelux versions of as many of the albums as possible. I was told I was a bit precocious. Hm.

Manc bands, there were some great ones. I still have a soft spot for Oasis and some great gigs (Loch Lomond springs to mind), Happy Mondays were great, up until it all started going wrong (probably from Step On onwards, don't particularly like Pills Thrills and Bellyaches much), there were some great Manc area bands as well, like The Bodines (Glossop) - dragged out my tape (arggh. TAPE) of their album the other week to convert into mp3's which was quite good to do... Laugh were good too. Joy Division it goes without saying, of course....

Muse? Dandy Warhols? Verve? Come on, these people are only displaying an attitude that is not very original, they don't create anything. We're talking about music here, Simon, I truly don't care about people's attitude. As for the color of their hair and the way they're dressed, that used to fascinate me when I was ten years old.

I saw B&S live a month ago, and they played a vast range of instruments, which were very well coordinated. Some of their songs are quite catchy, and I enjoy listening to them in my car. That's all, I don't care about who listens to them, for me music has never been a way of social distinction (at least not since high school).

As for New Order, they wrote some of the greatest classics of the 80s, and I don't see how they belong to the flower-indie-scene. As for the flowers thing, I think it was really original from Morissey to do this, and the Pixies did the same, for the Here comes your man video. More original than the way the Dandy Warhols are dressed, anyway.

why are you using muse and the verve as examples? i hate both bands. think they suck! lol! dandy warhols, well i've liked them since their first album, i don't like their new one... yeah they're a bit pretencious, but i let them off as they make good music, or they did.

Perfect for the Joy Division fan curious about New Order ...or someone who thinks that NO is just a dance/pop group.

Movement.... hmm I'll have to download this album as I won't be able to get it out here, and stuff is known to get nicked if posted.

In terms of JD, I bought their Heart and Soul boxset when I was living in the UK. They have produced some cracking stuff, real cutting edge, but some of their stuff is also hit and miss (the sign of a good band if you ask me).

I don't like cricket
I love it aah!

pulp = i used to kind of like, i like some of their stuff. but now it just sounds so cheesy, and there are so many fanatics who i know, who go over the top when the dj plays 'pink glove' or some other old shite song they did... pisses me right off.

muse = shite.

depeche mode = erm, some stuff is okay, give me duran duran any day though!

sex pistols = i'd rather have jonathan richman!

i think i just like too much american stuff, i don't like many uk bands at all... like i said, i like hefner, [looks at cds] supergrass, radiohead, the cure, david devant, first straw album, david bowie (!!!! nearly forgot !!!!), and i used to like suede...

so i'm not really anti-brit music. just not a massive fan... give me pixies, pavement, jonathan richman, brendan benson, modest mouse, electric six, eels, beck, dandy warhols any day...

drone? one of my best mates band... they're not bad. he's ace on guitar. he should really be playing in my band, but he's a little tempermental at times, and a bit stroppy... so it's not always a good idea. we'll see how things go anyway.

which band do you speak of?

They are so twee, as they say!!!

I really like Blur Simon, but they are hardly the best British band ever!!! Surely you could have come up with someone better.

By the way have you heard Amplifier yet Simon? They are a new band from Manchester. I saw the last few tracks they played in support of Auf Der Maur at the Hop & Grape recently. They were OK, not great but they seem to be quite highly rated. Not your usual Manchester sound, that's for sure.

By the way, If I had been refering to your band, you would have known it. Still I am actually very surprised that you do not know who I am refering to. You have a close link.
