Does anybody here know if the 5th series of the Sopranos, currently showing in the US, is actually the last one ever?
Thanks

I like it a lot, itīs almost the only good thing you can watch on portuguese television! And I like very much the introduction sound track.

...The majority of people are just like, `Play the monkey song!'

hang on, I just read this, Buscemi! in the sopranos? for real? my pops loves the sopranos and has all the DVD's, I might go back and visit him when he has DVD's with buscemi in, I love him, pops'll sit there and call him frog boy and I will drool, what a happy family we have!

Actually, one episode disturbed me more than anything I have ever seen on TV

I look like the kind of guy who pimps his sister not just for the money, but because he hates her
soundofataris Posted - 10/14/2004 : 14:30:30
better than the fourth, yes, but not the third.
Broken Face Posted - 10/14/2004 : 13:49:40
its always worth returning for more sopranos. as "bad" as it gets, its still one of the best shows on tv, hands down

the fifth season was better than the 3rd and 4th i think, but doesn't even touch the first two

Have they aired this season in britian yet? WHat are people's opinion of this last series now that the whole season is said and done? Is it worth returning for number six?

I'd guess he's working on something else..?

Or maybe the 6th series will be set in London... wouldn't that be great?
Although the Italian quarter here ain't as apt as New Jersey, I think.
Scarla O Posted - 05/14/2004 : 06:03:12

Yes i think he had a maricott' too Edwina.

I didn't really ask him many questions but he seemed like a nice enough guy. I wonder what he was doing in London? Maybe Tony's gonna move to Islington? ;)

I bumped into one of the directors in a sardinian restaurant in central london a couple of weeks back. We were talking about the sopranos and he said "i'm sorry are you talking about the sopranos? It's just I'm one of the directors".

It was allen coulter who directed quite a few of the episodes from series 1 -3 (though i don't know about later episodes).

Needless to say he ordered a ricott'.

Wow, that's mad... what are the chances? Did you ask him any questions?
No wonder he ordered a ricott' (though isn't that uncooked cheese?) - and maybe some maricotti, too?

Well, I haven't seen the episode about Tony's Dad but the worst episode so far for me has to be the one set in Italy, in the 2nd series, called 'Commendatori" or something like that- the amount of cliches used in that particular instance was really unbearable...

Yes, I think I remember that one - set in Naples? It was lazy writing and was happy to trot out just about every possible cliche they could think of re. Italian culture.

Don't get me wrong I think the writing in the series that I've seen so far (i'm up to series 3) has been excellent but that one was something of a anomaly.

Yeah, that's right, it was the one set in Naples and I agree, "lazy" doesn't cover it.
The writing is excellent overall, that's true, but somehow the research seems to be a bit poor: I was reading about a guy complaining the Russian people in the series actually speak another language- and he must have known, since he was Russian...

haven't seen season five- can't afford cable- I rent each season on dvd when it is released. yeah, you people in the uk- it pretty much sucks over here. EVERYTHING is market- driven.

I moved to queens recently and I see silvercup studios (where the sopranos is taped) from the el train. it's very cool looking. occasionally i see them shooting location shots around the city.
Dave Noisy Posted - 05/13/2004 : 10:46:07
Yeah Klik, they're trying to cover too much.. Last season had a very heavy Christopher and Adriana focus, now they're in the shadows..

And yeah...what is gonna happen to Meadow's fiance..hahaha..that scene was so well played.... You *knew* something was gonna happen when he got to work....but never would have guessed *that*..hahaha!

Edwina - i actually haven't seen the first or second season, but hopefully i'll be borrowing the DVD's soon..thanks for the heads-up. ;)

This weeks show was really good, I think. And I agree with you Dave about the racetrack mistress one. That was pretty lame. One thing that bothers me about the show is how they get you intrigued with a particular storyline and then don't revisit it for a long time. Like Adriana talking to the feds, Meadow's fiance ditching the Yankees game because he was scared, and Junior's health. I haven't even seen him at all for like the last 2 or 3 weeks. (Of course I am tired when I get around to watching the show Sunday nights.)

Watching this week's show in about half an hr...

yeah. it was bad. really bad. That sold racetrack they went to is near my house, though.

The stuff that I really want to see, which is the mob war in NY, is kept completely in the background. I think I might like the story a bit better if I wasn't constantly being reminded that there is a much more intense and interesting story going on adjacent to bear sightings and backyard BBQs

I'm really not caring for this new season. It started out pretty stronge but quickly got stuck in a mire.

(general stuff but some might view as spoilers)

There's been too many one-shot episodes which introduce and disposes(not kill) a character in a single episode, such as the gambler and T's father's mistress. Paulie, silvio, junior, the kids, and melfi have not really had anything to do and are barely in it. It seems that they are just repeating stories from previous seasons- big shot ex-cons that get out of jail and are jeleous of tony and start breakin' balls, degenerate gamblers, the executive game, the feds bugging him, etc.

(end)

its just all beginning to repeat its self and has become boring. Now Deadwood, that's an incredible show. When I sit down in front of the television sunday nights, it isn't the sopranos that I'm excited about any more, it deadwood. I want to see in what new way will Al Swaringer be a total bastards.

warm....warmer.....disco!

I'm glad that there's gonna be a season 6 at least. I am addicted to this show. And please don't bash on The Shield. That's probably the best non-HBO show on TV right now.
edwina Posted - 03/26/2004 : 08:55:05
What a shame- I didn't know that, I missed it.
Well, I hope they'll broadcast it again in the future.
Scarla O Posted - 03/26/2004 : 08:45:10

I've got a feeling that they showed it on BBC 2 every night for a few weeks in January but that they broadcasted it at an obscure time (12.30am) - it's no problem if you're got a video recorder i guess.
edwina Posted - 03/26/2004 : 08:32:38
Oh, well, that's pretty much a guarantee, then.
I hope they'll show it on a normal channel soon.
Scarla O Posted - 03/26/2004 : 08:14:32

No, i've not seen it but a good friend of mine who writes screenplays said he thought it was excellent.
edwina Posted - 03/26/2004 : 07:58:01
Thanks Scarla O- I had no idea. Have you seen it? Was it any good?
Scarla O Posted - 03/26/2004 : 07:52:30
Edwina, 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' was shown on BBC 4 in January but i don't know if it ever made it to terrestrial tv.
edwina Posted - 03/26/2004 : 07:04:20
Cheers...
I wonder if it makes it to the UK... has it been going on for long?
Is the humour similar to Seinfeld? I find that very funny.
Broken Face Posted - 03/26/2004 : 06:29:45
i think they'll kill tony at the end of the series to kill all chances of a "reunion" or something

curb your enthusiasm is a half hour, mostly-improved comedy staring Larry David, creator of Seinfeld. he plays himself and its basically his misadventures through life, always involving VERY awkward situations and others getting mad at him. Richard Lewis, Jeff Garlin, Ted Danson, Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Michael York and Mel Brooks are just some of the people who have guest starred over the past two seasons. it is VERY VERY funny.

Kill off Tony, what a tragedy...

I'll take cake too, thanks.

On another note, could someone tell me what Curb Your Enthusiasm is, pretty please?
Safe In This Skylife Posted - 03/26/2004 : 04:09:16

I'll take the 'cake' thanks Scarla...

Actually i think they'll want to kill off Tony at the end of the 6th Series...that or make him the president of the united states?

Scarla O Posted - 03/26/2004 : 02:18:54

I think you'll find the correct juxtaposition is: "Cake or Death?"
edwina Posted - 03/26/2004 : 01:54:04
Yes, I have heard that too... great stuff.
Seriously though, what will happen to Tony?
Jail or death?
Scarla O Posted - 03/26/2004 : 01:18:16

Apparently in the 6th Series it turns out that Anthony Junior is an FBI mole...true.
