I was downloading some video and audio from the Faith No More FTP site last night. Some good stuff there. Any other fans of Faith No More and Mike Patton?

He has been involved with some great records over the last 12 years:

Faith No More:

Angel dust

King for a day, fool for a lifetime

Album of the year

Mr Bungle:

Mr Bungle

Disco Volante

California

Tomahawk:

Tomahawk

Mit gas

Lovage

Music to make love to your old lady by.

I have to confess that I struggle with Fantomas and also his two solo albums. A bit too close to the edge for me!

Nonetheless, it is a very solid body of work. I think he approaches FB’s work rate at around 1 record per year on average.

I downloaded a live TV performance of 'God hates a coward' by Tomahawk. Absolute genius. There a very few artists out there who can put that kind of energy into a performance.

not Patton but Duane Denison discussing the latest Tomahawk record:

http://suicidegirls.com/interviews/Tomahawk/

quote:
I realized that if it weren’t for playing live I probably wouldn’t even do this. I like the creativity in recording. It’s fun to put things out but to me there’s just something primitive and ritualistic to playing live. It’s very basic and elemental. It’s just one of the basic straightforward forms of communication. It’s life affirming and there's an excitement there that I just don’t get from anything else. I like the fact that as a player you’ve got one chance. You play those songs and if you screw it up then tough luck. You’ve got to live with it. Especially nowadays with the YouTube generation -- everything you ever do is being recorded in some way. From now on, everything you ever do, especially musically, someone is going to be recording it. If you make a mistake they’ll be blogging about it immediately. It’s ridiculous. (Laughs)

Mike Patton Placates Wolfmother

Last year Mike Patton was being interviewed backstage at Lollapalooza while Wolfmother was playing in the background. Ever since the footage of him dissing the Aussie trio has been spread all over the web.

So when Mike was in on Top Shelf this week Robbie had to ask him about it. And the former Faith No More frontman said he's watched the video himself and regrets how he acted.

Sort of.

"I saw it once and I chuckled and I thought oh boy.... Oddly enough I've heard that song since and it's not really that bothersome, I think I was just in a mood. It's not really that good, it's not really that bad. It didn't warrant that kind of a response."

Mike's in Australia to play shows with Peeping Tom this weekend.

Chuck Mosely has a new band called VUA (Vandals Against Illiteracy). True story.

Mosely certainly had his moments. Sure he couldn't sing, I think he's now pursuing a career as a chef, but that kindof lended to the charm. I don't download things often and my copy of it is in a different country, no help there scuse, though it should be easy to find that one.

Anyone know where I can get hold of an mp3 of We Care A Lot with Chuck Moseley singing? I realise there's some bad blood and I don't mean to offend but I like Chucky better.

from the French Mike Patton forum:

"Articles aves quelques détails croustillants :

"I just got done working with a choir in Italy which was really fun, for a piece that was written by Eyvind Kang, and will probably be coming out on Ipecac next year"

"The next fatômas record is going to be an all-electronic affair"

Citation:
Mike Patton should give a seminar on how to juggle several projects at once. As the May 30 release of his new album under the moniker Peeing Tom approaches, Patton has a number of other endeavors in various states of completion.

"I just got done working with a choir in Italy which was really fun, for a piece that was written by Eyvind Kang, and will probably be coming out on Ipecac next year," Patton tells Billboard.com. The artist also contributed to "a couple of records" with John Zorn, details of which have yet to be announced.

As for the first all-new studio effort from Tomahawk since 2003's "Mit Gas," Patton says it is coming along "Slowly but nicely -- and I'm completely to blame for the slowly part. [Guitarist] Duane [Denison] has had stuff written for it seems like eons now, and I'm just been very backed up. It's getting closer and closer to my main focus now. So I expect once I can zero in on it, we'll be able to bang it out and hopefully record it before the end of the year."

Patton reveals that the new material is "quieter" than previous efforts. "I think it's going to be a nice little detour for us -- I think we need it," he says. "It's going to be a brooding, quiet, creepy little record. Duane has written new arrangements of public domain anonymous, mostly Native American tunes. It should be kind of neat -- it doesn't really sound like Tomahawk. It doesn't really sound like folk music, that's for sure."

Also in the planning stages is the fifth release by star-studded noise-mongers Fantomas, which also features Melvins guitarist Buzz Osborne, Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn, and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. "The next record is going to be an all-electronic affair," he says. "It's going to take some creative planning on how to record it and execute it, but there will be no acoustic instruments on it whatsoever. We're pretty much about to go into hibernation mode. I need to, once I have a little time, go back to the drawing board, and start writing the next one."

But first up is Peeping Tom, which includes an unlikely guest spot by Norah Jones on the track "Sucker." "Her name came up in the context of a few drinks and a few laughs, really," Patton admits. "Sometimes good ideas begin that way. A friend of mine had engineered some of her stuff. I knew I needed a strong female presence. I thought that getting somebody from another musical world might be the right choice. So I threw a line out and she responded immediately and warmly, and was super enthusiastic."

Peeping Tom will make its television debut May 26 on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien.""

Moonchild
New John Zorn album (sans Zorn) featuring Mike Patton (voice), Joey Baron (drums) and Trevor Dunn (bass).

"Zorn’s newest project is a hardcore song cycle scored for voice, bass and drums. This powerful rock unit features three of his most illustrious, longtime cohorts who have worked together in bands such as Naked City, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle and Electric Masada and are keenly in tune with Zorn’s language and aesthetic. Musicians are always at their best in Zorn projects and Moonchild is no exception. You have never heard these players as up front, on the edge or as inspired as they are here, raging through eleven pieces of terrifying intensity. Drawing on preverbal language and the primal power of rock music, this is Torture Garden with an alchemical twist—spontaneous, complex and evocative. Eleven new Zorn compositions executed with a ritualistic passion that will take your breath away."

"May. 9, 2006 Hey, who let those guys in???? Ipecac invades i-tunes! Check it out. You can go to i-tunes right now to get your first official taste of PEEPING TOM. For a limited time you can buy the single "Mojo" featuring Mike Patton with help from Dan the Automator and Rahzel. To make it more interesting you can also purchase the track "Pre-School" that will not be available on the debut PEEPING TOM self titled full length that arrives on May 30th 2006, after 6 years of rumors, "leaked" demos, collaborator corralling and label negotiations.
It's simple, go to the i-tunes store and look for the PEEPING TOM mini in the exclusives section or do a search.
The reviews are glowing! Look for the band's "live" debut on the Conan O'Brien show May 26th. The "Mojo" music video should be hitting the airwaves in early June. The time has arrived!!!!"

I'm a massive Patton fan Faith No More and Mr Bungle are my favourite bands of all time as well as the Pixies. I've posted this in another thread http://www.fnm.com/tv/Rage95.html he chose a pixies, breeders and Frank Black song to be played when guest programmed one of our music shows. I wish i had the episode so I could see what he said.

I knew nothing of the man but Surfer_Rosa (and later HeywoodJablome)'s constant nagging made me want to check him out. I just went out and bought "Disco Volante", which blew me away. Needless to say, I'm a big fan now and own everything I could get my hands on (except Maldoror, I'm still a bit reluctant). I love Mr. Bungle & Fantomas, I enjoy the Tomahawk albums immensely, Lovage, Kaada & Patton, you name it. Even his hip-hop album has been in heavy rotation chez jediroller for the last 3 months.

The Patton connection turned me on to John Zorn and I've been enjoying the Naked City box set for a solid month. Insane stuff.

Still not too sure about the Melvins though. But I'm working on it.

Ooh..
Here´s Patton on Norah Jones: “You don’t recruit someone like that unless you … I mean, I had something real specific in mind for her, and I wanted to take her out of her element and put her in a new environment and make it exciting, and she loved it. She did great. But yeah, you won’t recognize Norah. She’s cussing her ass off. It’s insane. She’s like a cruel vamp, and it’s super sexy, hot and, yeah, cruel.”
