Posted - 04/29/2009 : 03:59:07 A place to talk about day to day issues affecting Obama's presidency.
Like today for example, 100 days in, comes the news of Arlen Spector's defection. Are the pundits right? Will the combination of a Democratic White House, a Democratic House and a possible 60 seat philibuster proof Senate majority give Obama all the power he needs to get what he wants done? Is that a good thing? More liberals in the judiciary, for example, has got to be a good thing, right?

quote: Jordanian PM Abdullah Ensour: "It would be a very exact hit to the chemical weapons, and not hurt the civilians"
Oh sure, because announcing you might be intending to bomb a weapons site days/weeks before you actually go ahead and do it totally makes sense from a strategic point of view.
They are going to have to be precise, and they are going to need some serious explosives to burn off all the chemicals, and they are gong to need to be sure that the enemy hasn't scattered the chemical weapons around such that if there was a strike most of it wouldn't get burned off and instead released into the air.
It's ok, no need to worry, the US military know how to handle this situation. |

Yes that's a conundrum for those that construct it.

Obama's argument here seems to be that if they don't 'stage' some form of military intervention, ie. blow some carefully calculated targets up and hope to fuck they don't kill or maim too many civilians, or cause a massive humanitarian disaster that would make Bhopal look like a bad fart, that this will give all tyrannical regimes the green light to just go around attacking their civilians with impunity, much like Israel for instance.
Of course there is the counter argument, on the other hand, if this was instead the work of terrorists trying to stir shit up more and start a war, it plays right into their hands and almost encourages them to keep doing it, so as to eventually throw the entire world into a holy war. It wont be America's fault if that ever happens though.
Not so smart now Rambozo. |

Posted - 09/02/2013 : 15:03:16 I listened to a talk show on BBC radio 5 the other night, some American pundit trying to defend Vietnam by stating that napalm is not actually illegal under internal law, or defined as a weapon.
I'm intrigued by the silence from Bush and Blair on this situation.
Everyone else 'currently in power' evidently doesn't have a clue what the fuck to do right now.
Oh dear, it looks like we were wrong after all. Not acting makes us look weak. Better stage some form of military action, or else we might lose the next election.
I think this was terrorists who done this, the same ones that the west supported several months ago. It could be anybody, with any motive. yet somehow the US magically has evidence it was the Syrian government. |
