Posted - 04/11/2007 : 12:32:14 I can hardly wait for this new album from Spoon.
Thanks to Dean for turning me into a ravenous fan.
Now I'll pull a carl;
Spoon's latest long player is finished and at this moment being put into production, duplicated in the forms of CD and vinyl. The new album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (named after the sound of one of the first songs written for the record, "The Ghost of You Lingers") will be released locally by the #1 label in America, Merge Records, on July 10, 2007. Release dates for other parts of the world will with any luck be known and announced soon. But for God's sake if you or someone you know or someone you've read about owns a label in Japan, please contact us. We want to go to Japan.
Here will be the contents:
Don't Make Me a Target The Ghost of You Lingers You Got Yr Cherry Bomb Don't You Evah Rhthm and Soul Eddie's Ragga The Underdog My Little Japanese Cigarette Case Finer Feelings Black Like Me
This record was mostly made at Jim's studio in Austin with Mike McCarthy and the Enos. Though we did escape to Los Angeles briefly to do some stuff with Jon Brion.
Upcoming shows: 04-13 Grinnell, IA - Harris Center (Grinnell College) 04-21 Baltimore, MD - Sonar (Main Room) 04-22 Philadelphia, PA - Starlight Ballroom 04-24 Asbury Park, NJ - Stone Pony 04-26 New Haven, CT - Toad's Place 04-27 Northampton, MA - Pearl Street 04-28 Boston, MA - Museum of Fine Arts, Boston 05-27 George, WA - Gorge Amphitheatre (Sasquatch Festival) 06-16 Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Music Festival 07-04 Detroit, MI - Comerica CityFest
***** For the next few months Spoon will be playing a number of secret shows around the country, starting very soon indeed.

Yeah a 12 hour trip with 3 kids in the car is beautiful....
I'm really starting to dig Gagagagagagaga. Still not quite as much as Gimme Fiction.

Posted - 08/21/2007 : 14:35:31 OK Damn. Now I see that they have public transportation to and from the island form the Giant stadium. Hmm...this might be worth the trip after all. They've got Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, and Spoon playing on the Sunday.

Posted - 08/21/2007 : 14:26:19 OK, shit. Now I have to admit that would be a damn fine background view for a festival, assuming it's not windy and 40 degrees that day.

Posted - 08/21/2007 : 14:22:41 DC gets them at the 9:30 club, but all SF gets is the Treasure Island festival? What the crap is that crap? Assuming the Treasure Island festival is on Treasure Island, which is halfway across the span of the Oakland bay Bridge, I can't imagine a worse traffic nightmare. Probably a cool setting for a show, but damn. I avoid that bridge at all costs.

Posted - 08/21/2007 : 12:16:20 So does Spoon put on a good show or what? I'd like to catch them in Nashville, but I think I'm might be relocated by then.
As long as I get to see Local H, though, all is well. You know what I mean? Local H puts on a great show.
Going to see Ben Kweller this Friday. He also rocks, motherfucker.

Spoon Cancel Headline Shows to Open for the Shins
The Shins aren't made of squishy yellow foam like Spoon's other new friend, but the two bands have enough mutual affection to account for their appearance on the same October 22 bill at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. (Vetiver opens the show.)
What this means, though, is that Spoon were forced to cancel both of their shows at D.C.'s 9:30 Club on October 22 and 23. In addition to a simple refund, ticketholders for those shows have two options for attending the Merriweather Post Pavilion show:
1) Go to the 9:30 or Merriweather box office, and trade in the original ticket and an extra ten dollars for a General Admission Pit or Reserved Pavilion ticket.
2) Bring the original ticket to Merriweather on the day of the show for a lawn seat.
Other North American residents have a much easier decision to make: To go or not to go. The decisions continue September 5 in Seattle.

Posted - 08/03/2007 : 10:51:37 That Drake Tungsten track is a wonderful half-disguised instrumental cover of Dancing the Manta Ray, and it's available on the You Could Say So, Motherfucker rarities compilation.
They're playing Vancouver again next month, and I'm having a hard time talking myself out of going...they were in such great form in June and all reviews indicate that has continued.

Posted - 07/30/2007 : 13:55:35 interesting side note about Britt Daniel (sorry if it was brought up here earlier): prior to forming spoon in the mid-90s, he went by the psuedonym Drake Tungsten. as such, he put out one LP and another EP. one of the songs recorded on the EP??? "manta ray" to which he credits as an original pixies song.
got to see spoon this past weekend...great show!

Posted - 07/20/2007 : 14:53:17 I liked it at first, and I want to see these guys live bad. The only show they're playing near me a festival, and I'm too old for that shit. Are they too big for club shows now? They seem like more of a smaller venue band to me. What's with all the festivals? Bleck. . == jeffamerica == |

Posted - 07/05/2007 : 09:25:31 I didn't like "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" at first, but I loved the new songs when they played them live yesterday. After they left they came back out and played three more songs, two of them I didn't know, and the faggot security guy told me to put my camera away while they were playing "I Turn My Camera On", which is ironic don'tcha think? Also Britt signed a napkin i found on the ground.
