I have heard many friends of mine and people in general sing the praises of RADIOHEAD. I almost feel obligated that I should like them, but sorry to say, I just find them unlistenable.

I believe they produce good music, but I just can't get my head around it.

Same goes for PEARL JAM.

Anyone else have this "problem" with other bands/artists...

Yeah, that's what I love about them too.

I guess Oasis is in the "bands I like, but have very little rationale for liking" category. Or more simply put, "Bands I shouldn't like, but do."

Their newer stuff is terrible, though.

And I don't get the Guided by Voices thing. An average band, in my opinion.

Well, you definitely should lke Captain Beefheart. I'm glad you admit that you should like him. After all, he fits all the criteria of a great musician (rugged individualism, poetic lyrics that showcase fragments of genius, the fact that he obviously puts a lot of effort into his songs), but I understand that sometimes a musicians' work just won't appeal to you despite all the rational reasons why you should like it.

I really should like Mozart more than I do. I don't know; his melodies just seem a little too obvious at times, but in his defense, I haven't listened to that much of him. I know that I definitely should like him for the impact that he has had on the world of classical music.

And I love Guided By Voices, but the song "Over The Neptune/Mesh Gear Fox" is a song that I really should like, but don't. I mean, I have no idea why I don't like it. It compiles every side of the band in 6 minutes! There are so many hooks on it, but alas, I just can't bring myself to like it.

Yes, they have been the best band in the world for the last 12 years after all.

"The arc of triumph"

I really hope thats a joke.

"Dance at my party."

just can agree. i was hoping that this is a joke, but now we know the truth... anyway, i dont like any of those bands mentioned so far.

errrmm, no one ever mentioned nirvana!

Yeah I agree with Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin.

Great musicians, good mixers of great influences, highly original (and of course influential), nice chaps it seems, but no. Minly because of the tone of RP's voice, I think.

To me Whole Lotta Love is about as exciting as James the Blunt.

(Disclaimer: I liked their third album a bit when I heard that)

Cut-and-paste Beatles rip-off nonsense. Some catchy/nice tunes, otherwise...

No certainly not. Nearly every song is way too long and sounds the same as every other song.

I liked Greenday during thier early years, I think Dookie is a fantastic album, wherever or not you think it's Punk is besides the point. However one band i've never been able to enjoy is Black Sabbath. I'm aware they have some great songs and are highly influential, yet I just can't stand listining to any of thier stuff.

Now that I understand the question:

The Smiths. I just don't like his voice.
The Arcade Fire. They have a few good songs, but "Funeral" is terrible.
Death Cab For Cutie. Actually, no. They pretty much have 3 good songs. The rest is crap.
I had another. I can't remember...

And I used to sometimes try to catch her, but never even caught her name...

The Cure. I enjoy their singles, but I've never felt inclined to get any album.

I don't think I like Robert Smith or his voice, particularly. That might be why.

If you can't get into that one then you should try Hex Enduction Hour. You'll find it absolutely repulsive.

FAST_MAN RAIDER_MAN - June 19th

I have been very aware of them since the early-mid 1990's. I bought Pablo Honey when it originally came out (which I thought was reasonable at the time) then dabbled with the next 3 or 4 including Bends, OK Computer, Iron Lung, etc. I think I basically gave up around Kid-A. Have not heard Amnesiac or Thief, nor bothered with Eraser either, yet...

When I saw the name of the thread I immediatley thought Radiohead, I like some of their stuff, I think Electioneering is a great song, and Just as well, but other than that I tend to find them boring

In the context that I find Radiohead to be an anomaly. There is a template there where a lot of people who like the same music as me include Radiohead near the top of their lists. There seem to be so many people who get so much aout them. Even the way they describe their music and the effect it has on them is appealing to me.

(( I'm a Snake... ))

no, i wasn't referring to your post... yes, you SHOULD like radiohead. but why should mr biscuitdoughhead like all those shit bands?

Unfortunately the real thing is lost on my ears. I gave it a shot and it didn't work. I just find it to be such hard work listening to them. Should I give them one more try? I don't know...
