I'll begin by mentioning what a great venue the Empress Ballroom is, even though I live about fifteen minutes down the road, I've never been to a gig there. It's very ornate inisde, lots of chandeliers and such, which makes a change from the usual square, purpose built venues.
Anyway, Willie Mason was supporting, and he was pretty boring in my opinion. Radiohead came on about half 8 and played a 2 hour set. I cant fault the band, the performance was flawless, but I have to say it was nowhere near as good as I had expected. It was the first time I'd seen Radiohead live, and they're one of my favourite bands, not to mention one of the most colossal and relevant alternative acts of the past 20 years. So maybe I had built it up too much. I think the crowd were partly responsible, this might sound ridiculous but even though I was quite close to the front, nobody seemed to be moving or singing along, they were just in quiet awe of the band. But Im used to being knocked about a bit and having the band drowned out by singing morons. Maybe it is bizarre for me to crave that, maybe I should have had a few more drinks and a couple more cigs. It just didn't 'feel' like I was at a gig.
Like I said, that wasn't the bands fault. They played an excellent set and loads of new material which sounded really promising. They played my own personal favourites Climbing up the Walls and Black Star. No Fake Plastic Trees though. Here's the full setlist:

'National Anthem'
'2+2=5'
'Bangers 'n' Mash'
'Lucky'
'Airbag'
'Bodysnatchers'
'15 Steps'
'Exit Music'
'Paranoid Android'
'Nude'
'Arpeggi'
'My Iron Lung'
'Where I End And You Begin'
'Climbing Up The Walls'
'How To Disappear Completely'
'Idioteque'
'There There'

Encore:

'Planet Telex'
'House Of Cards'
'Black Star'
'Everything In Its Right Place'

Second Encore:

'The Tourist'

Also, I just read that Thom Yorke is working on a solo album which could be interesting: http://www.nme.com/news/radiohead/23064

The first one I only had to wait about a minute for, the second one about an hour. It's worth it though. Just keep refreshing.

Carl Posted - 05/28/2006 : 11:28:32
Thanks a lot, as long as it's no trouble, of course.

[EDIT]I mean thanks, not takes. *confusion*

fbc Posted - 05/28/2006 : 11:00:51
It's very possible. Hope you don't mind, but they're pretty big files, so they should both be here by the morning, our time.
Carl Posted - 05/28/2006 : 10:59:28
It might just be the basic StuffIt I have, Soren! If you can load up zip files, that would be great, if it's trouble!

fbc Posted - 05/28/2006 : 10:53:37
Could be. My bad. I've only just figured out I can convert to Zip, too. If you want me to reload using zip files I will, Carl, no problemo.

A lot of songs off of The Bends are favourites.

Yesterday I got hold of a live boot of the May 18th gig (Hammersmith Apollo), and it was the first time in ages I'd listened to a serious dose of Radiohead.

This world is indeed smaller than my chocolate starfish. I must commend you on your super sleuthy skills there Malax, or should I say, Poirot.
Im not on myspace which is probably why you couldn't match up the face. I know they are in the 'in thing' right now but I just cant be fucked setting one up. Not much to tell on my part either, just an average guy, like Music and generally being a lazy son of a cunt.
The reason Claire saw me in the library is because I was/am working on a 2000 word essay which has to be in tommorow morning. Its currently 11pm and I've only written 1,144. So I guess I should just stop reading this board and get back to work. Looks like its gonna be an all nighter
Im sure with our mutual friends that one day our two worlds will collide in terms of physical prescence....but for now I will just have to content my self with imagining what you look like. Im imagining Yul Brynner.

Malax Posted - 05/22/2006 : 14:49:45
I'd prefer it if you didn't call me Al, what I find even more amazing is that Claire just saw you in the library and told you that. This site doesn't have PMs which is a bit odd. I dunno what there is to tell. Im from Preston everything else you need to know can be found at myspace/chappleink bands etc etc.

Homer, I didn't know it was him, I actually dug through his friends myspace to see if I could match up the face but I couldn't. This thread though says he lives near Blackpool and he went to see Radiohead as did his friends. I put 2 and 2 together and well...

How exactly did you know it was him Alan?

Ah right, did you see him at Academy 2, when loads of twats climbed on stage?

I know now what Alan is a cowboy killer is. I just saw Claire and she informed me. How bizarre this is, that we have never spoken and yet were nattering on about all this shit. Tell me a little bit more about yourself Al...(I can call you Al cant I?)....

Malax Posted - 05/22/2006 : 14:01:51
They didn't boo him off stage, he just played, hardly said a word to the crowd then went off. Everyone hung around chanting for him to come back out and he didn't so everyone boo-ed. The next time I saw him they didn an encore, guess they just didn't feel like it that night.

I presume you now know what alan is a cowboy killer is, if you don't it quite hillariously is a mclusky song with my name in the title!!!!!!!!!

They boo-ed him off stage, why? What a bunch of cunts.
What does cowboy killer mean? I thought it was slang for cigarettes or native americans?

Ps my funeral song will be Fields of Marigold. You can come to my funeral and rock out, if you'd like.
Malax Posted - 05/22/2006 : 09:36:17
Ha judo pants thats ace, I wear comfortable trousers that what I wear and don't let anyone tell you otherwise ;)
I do 'like' mclusky and I have seen him live, twice. Once in Manchester when he was booed for not playing the encore and once in Sheffield were he was great. All I know about you is that your funeral song is.....damn I forgot was it off devils workshop?

And yes I am a cowboy killer you could say, alan is a cowboy killer

Yes I did. Sort of. I asked my friend and she text her sister who asked someone or other who is supposed to be a big frank black fan and i've never met the guy. Is that you? This might be a long shot, but are you Alan? If so, I've never met you, but have heard that you also cream your horn over the big man.

I was really pissed when my english teacher refused to tell me more about punctuation in english language.
she said "forget about it... it's totaly different from your mother tongue punctuation... just write short sentences..." I was like "Fuck! Off!"

National Anthem is the most impressive for me. I first heard it on my way home late one evening, not really listening and just changing channels and it immediately got my full attention (bar the road), the thick riff and later the cymbals pounding it in. I didn't know who it was at first and certainly wasn't expecting something like Radiohead on the national radio (though a fan since Pablo), turned out they were airing Kid A for the first time.

punctu-what-now?

Actually it doesn't bode well for the ebook does it? I can punctuate when I pay attention honestly! I had to sit a test for an editorial job recently and I got really good marks. Didn't get the job, but...

Black Star, Morning Bell, Permenant Daylight (My Iron Lung ep), Polyethylene* (Parts 1 & 2) (Paranoid android b side in the UK Karma police b side in france) and Let Down, ooh no maybe Lucky...

Albums, would go Kid A, OK Comupter, The Bends, Pablo Honey, HTTT and then amnesiac.

Maybe the bends tied with OK computer because I think whilst OK computer has some of the most outstanding tracks on it the bends is a more cohesive album.

this is hard.

What I like about Tre is her steadfast defiance of the rules of punctuation, never at the expense of intelligibility, mind you. I know: punctuation is for toadies.
